About The Position

McGraw Hill, a leading provider of digital and print educational solutions, is seeking a Senior Product Manager, Assessment. This role will focus on defining strategy and leading the integration of third-party assessment and student data solutions to support teachers in personalizing learning. The Senior Product Manager will collaborate with Assessment Product leadership to develop and execute an overall assessment integration vision, strategy, and roadmap. The ideal candidate will possess deep customer empathy and the ability to champion the customer's voice while advocating for business interests. This role is accountable for supporting the articulation and execution of a cross-discipline, cross-segment assessment and data strategy for School, with a specific focus on third-party assessment and data integrations to strengthen the holistic student data story. This includes understanding current programs and markets, and defining short and long-term plans for developing a cross-program strategy for third-party assessment partnerships and data integration opportunities, leading discovery and solutioning with various teams, and driving the launch and optimization of assessment partnerships. The role also involves driving additional assessment, instrumentation, and student performance data visualization needs across programs in collaboration with peers and Data Science teams, and using assessment to inspire efficacious action. The Senior Product Manager will be responsible for product strategy realization through cross-functional leadership, understanding the market and competitive landscape, and delivering integrated assessment product solutions that achieve measurable business results. The role requires deep knowledge of assessment, digital assessment delivery technology, and proven experience managing complex technical solutions with Agile engineering teams. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, facilitation, and communication skills are essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 7+ years of product management or equivalent leadership role.
  • Background and experience in K-12 assessment, data-driven instruction and/or personalized learning required
  • Proven experience generating and utilizing qualitative and quantitative data to drive product decisions.
  • Strategy: Ability to support the articulation of a vision for the future, while meeting the needs of the classroom of today. Actively engage with customers. Understand the market and competitive landscape and know how to deliver measurable business results.
  • Leadership Qualities: Exhibit exceptional communication and leadership skills. Skilled at bringing internal and external stakeholders along in embracing and realizing a product vision, with a proven ability to lead strong cross-functional teams; to inspire, influence and negotiate at all levels of an organization.
  • Assessment Domain Expertise: Ability to drive/evolve assessment from a product feature to differentiated capabilities and new product offerings, whether that be in core curriculum, or as we begin to explore curriculum agnostic and other supplemental opportunities.
  • Product Management Excellence: Influence cross-functional teams to conceptualize, create, and deliver market winning learning experiences that delight customers. Leverage McGraw Hill’s vast technology ecosystem to conceive of and deliver innovative solutions in support of your product strategy and galvanize internal collaborators to deliver continual customer value. Oversee multi-year roadmaps through all stages of the product development cycle. Translate high-level goals into clear deliverables. Maintain the backlog, prioritize what matters, and make scope tradeoffs when reality doesn't match the plan.
  • Delivery-Focused: Align on specs, data requirements, and timelines—and flag misalignments early so there's time to fix them. Partner with Program Managers and Engineering Leads to keep your team healthy and delivery on track. Surface dependencies, identify risks, and help clear obstacles. Define integration requirements—API specs, data flows, UX expectations—and make them accessible to the people who need them.
  • Business and Financial Acumen: Uphold business objectives. Support the development of business cases that articulate emerging market value, timelines, and financials to obtain funding approvals. Support the management of overall financial and new product performance, including revenue, profit, and loss through the product lifecycle—from strategic planning to market launch to product retirement.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of a comprehensive strategy for new assessment and reporting product and feature development, with a focus on external partnerships and data integration to augment our capacity and increase our competitive differentiation: define market needs and opportunities, lead cross-functional concepting and solutioning, and translate strategy to a delivery plan.
  • Lead day-to-day partner interactions to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction, and identify opportunities to enhance customer value proposition over time.
  • Define and drive new assessment and reporting product features in support of third-party assessment data by combining market & customer knowledge alongside internal capabilities and constraints. Perpetually strive for product differentiation that resonates with the market.
  • Oversee the delivery of new assessment integrations through milestone planning, feature articulation, user story development, and day-to-day engineering team management.
  • Continuously monitor new product performance, the competitive environment, and market changes to increase product effectiveness, usage, and profitability.
  • Partner with portfolio leadership, marketing, and other stakeholders on all aspects of the Go to Market Plan for new partnerships, including but not limited to messaging definition, training, and communication to internal and external customers.
  • Serve as primary business product stakeholder for Assess platform, partnering with Technical Product Management to define and prioritize platform features based on business value and user impact, to drive assessment quality and overall utilization.
  • Represent MH in public fora.
