Sr. Product Development Engineer - Product Operations

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc•Secaucus, NJ

About The Position

AMD is seeking a Product Development Engineer, Product Operations to join its Datacenter Platform Engineering Group and drive the development and manufacturing launch of datacenter hardware, including server and rack systems. The role collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet design standards, quality targets, and production timelines, coordinating complex technical projects from design through production. The engineer leads and supports new product introduction (NPI), design-for-manufacturability reviews, design and readiness reviews, prototype and first-article builds, manufacturing process validation, and engineering change management. The role helps resolve design and production issues, supports the transition to volume production, and works with quality and production teams to ensure products meet customer specifications and are delivered on schedule. A bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required; a relevant master's degree is preferred. The role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Benefits are described as “AMD benefits at a glance,” but specific benefits are not listed in the posting.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of relevant industry experience in product development engineering or a closely related hardware engineering role, including work with design and manufacturing processes for complex hardware products such as datacenter or server products.
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ability to coordinate complex technical projects across teams and drive projects to completion in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to lead meetings and coordinate across multiple teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience guiding products from concept through development and production.
  • Knowledge of physical design (PD) methodologies for hardware or systems.
  • Familiarity with server architectures or rack-level hardware systems and their components.
  • Ability to conduct DFM reviews and optimize designs for efficient manufacturing.
  • Experience managing ECO processes and implementing design updates in a production environment.
  • Understanding of printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) manufacturing processes and best practices.
  • Strong documentation skills, including creating and maintaining engineering documentation and Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications for design accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing or factory environment, especially in a fast-paced NPI setting, with a history of successfully launching new hardware products.
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering field, such as Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering design, materials, program management, and other teams to coordinate design, materials planning, manufacturing, and quality throughout product development.
  • Review design specifications, CAD drawings, and documentation for compliance with design criteria, industry standards, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews to optimize products for efficient, high-quality production.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and implementation-readiness timelines for on-time new product introductions.
  • Communicate project status and readiness milestones to customer program management teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Drive NPI processes by facilitating cross-functional problem-solving with Design, Manufacturing, Test, and Quality Engineering teams.
  • Identify and resolve design or production issues to support product launch and ramp-up.
  • Establish and lead development review meetings, provide design-review guidance and feedback, and coordinate design changes for feasibility and manufacturing alignment.
  • Oversee first-article builds and First Article Inspections (FAI); document requirements, analyze results, and implement improvements to validate design and manufacturing readiness.
  • Coordinate engineering rework and change orders during transition to volume production; manage ECO processes while minimizing effects on production schedules.
  • Validate and approve production assembly instructions, including labeling and work instructions, and ensure assembly processes are documented and optimized.
  • Work with quality and production teams to ensure final products meet customer specifications and quality standards and are delivered on schedule.
