About The Position

FinQuery is seeking a Sr. Product Accounting Manager to join their team. This role is for a technical accountant who wants to shape accounting software rather than just apply accounting rules. The position involves translating complex accounting requirements into elegant software solutions, ensuring financial reports are accurate, and empowering customers to focus on strategic tasks. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of accounting standards and a desire to influence product development. Requirements

Four to six years of progressive experience in audit or assurance at a Big 4 firm and/or senior-level corporate accounting.
Ability to read a standard, identify what's actually being asked, and explain it to a software engineer in plain English.
US GAAP expertise is required.
Working knowledge of IFRS and applicable international frameworks is strongly preferred.
CPA strongly preferred; equivalent technical experience considered.
AI fluency: ability to write prompts that get useful, accurate output from LLMs, critically evaluate AI-generated accounting content, catch hallucinations and misapplications of guidance, and know when to trust output versus go back to the source.
Communication range: ability to write a memo a partner would sign, explain a new FASB standard to a developer over Slack, and present a recommendation to executives.
Judgment: ability to know which questions need a definitive answer, which need a footnote, and which need to be escalated.
Ability to operate independently and set the approach on critical assignments.
Ability to operate cross-functionally, leading working groups without positional authority.
Ability to operate visibly, with work shaping product decisions and reaching customers.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Be the accounting expert inside Product, partnering with product engineers, engineers, designers, and QA to translate US GAAP, IFRS, GASB, and applicable international frameworks into software requirements, example scenarios, and test cases.
Research and rule on ambiguous accounting questions escalated from teams across the organization, documenting reasoning.
Stay ahead of standard-setters by monitoring publications and emerging guidance from FASB, IASB, the FRC, GASB, and accounting firms, briefing Product and leadership.
Build the accounting foundation for new products by developing example scenarios, edge case documentation, and requirements.
Utilize AI as a force multiplier for research, drafting, and analysis, while ensuring the accuracy of AI-generated accounting content.
Talk to customers by joining prospect and customer calls, articulating and defending how the software handles complex accounting scenarios, and bringing feedback back to the product team.
Teach the company by writing customer bulletins, briefing leadership on emerging guidance, and explaining accounting concepts.
Test new accounting features end-to-end and drive anomalies through to resolution.
Mentor junior team members and improve the skills of those around you.
