About The Position

Qorvo is looking for an experienced Sr. Principal RF/Electrical Engineer to join the Defense & Aerospace High-Power RF (HPRF) product development team. The successful candidate will lead electrical design and development efforts of RF power amplifiers for defense communications, radar and electronic warfare applications.

Requirements

  • Expert-level experience designing Ku-band and Ka-band RF sub-assemblies
  • Expert-level experience performing system budgeting, including RF link budgets, power budgets, and thermal heat dissipation budgets
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience using 3D EM simulation tools such as HFSS and/or CST and knowledge of one or more of the following: ADS, Microwave Office (MWO), or Cadence (Spectre) circuit simulators. Experience using EDA design tools to simulate wave propagation and the effects of the environment on the wave
  • Deep expertise in RF and microwave engineering, including s-parameters, material permittivity, impedance matching, cavity modeling, and cavity resonance suppression/management
  • Broad knowledge of semiconductor RF / power packaging, materials, assembly processes supporting infrastructure and defense electronic assemblies and sub-assemblies
  • Familiarity with PCB and/or mechanical assembly construction considerations. Hands-on expertise with RF and hardware development tools, including schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Hands-on lab experience using RF measurement equipment (network and spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, oscilloscopes, etc.)
  • Ability to serve as a design authority and gatekeeper for driving quality into the design process through comprehensive documentation, design review participation, and test data analysis
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to concisely summarize highly technical concepts

Responsibilities

  • Build complex HFSS EM models of RF/mmWave multi-stage high gain and high power solid-state amplifiers within channelized and/or enclosed cavities
  • Integrate MMICs into various housings and assemblies towards innovative High power RF solutions
  • Develop advanced cascaded MMIC modules using 2.5D and 3D electromagnetic simulators
  • Design PCB-level power management and analog circuitry required for MMIC biasing and health monitoring
  • Conduct product checkout, optimization, and design verification testing (DVT) in the test lab
  • Execute DVT analysis and present results to the internal and/or external customer(s)
  • Support products through critical lifecycle stages including concept/feasibility, development, qualification, and production.
