About The Position

This role is part of Alcon's Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes. The Sr. Principal, Manufacturing Science & Technology Engineering (Science/Tech/Engineering Path), is primarily responsible for leading multiple technical projects, ensuring goals are achieved through expertise and innovation. You will develop, implement, and evaluate new production materials, equipment, and technologies, conduct research and development, and assess project capacity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +15 yrs; Assoc.+11 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • 7 Years of Relevant Experience
  • 5 Years of Demonstrated Leadership

Responsibilities

  • Oversee multiple technical projects, ensuring goals are met through specialized expertise and technological innovation
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate new production materials, equipment, and technologies before mass production
  • Perform technical feasibility tests to ensure production efficiency
  • Select and communicate with vendors to determine product specifications and ensure timely, budget-compliant delivery
  • Engage with partner functions such as research and development, commercial, and quality
  • Make critical decisions affecting project outcomes, requiring project management, advanced problem-solving, and technical expertise
  • Lead the identification, evaluation, qualification, and approval of suppliers for new and alternative raw materials, components, and consumables.
  • Develop and execute supplier qualification strategies to ensure material availability, business continuity, cost competitiveness, and supply chain resilience.
  • Coordinate and oversee material equivalency studies, comparability assessments, and change control activities for alternative materials and sources.
  • Partner with Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, R&D, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams to define supplier qualification requirements and material acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with manufacturing sites and R&D to evaluate the impact of material changes, provide technical leadership and risk-based assessments, and establish the requirements necessary to qualify and implement new or alternate materials.
  • Lead the development of enterprise-wide processes, tools, and decision models to support technical assessments, change management, and qualification decisions for new and alternative materials.
