About The Position

The Senior Principal Engineer serves as a top-level technical authority responsible for shaping upstream technology strategy and translating unmet clinical needs into scalable, high-volume medical device platforms. This role operates at the intersection of clinical insight, exploratory engineering, and long-term product strategy, with direct visibility to clinicians, marketing, regulatory, and manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • 15+ years of medical device R&D experience with strong upstream focus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in endoscopic or minimally invasive, high-volume medical technologies.
  • Deep understanding of design controls, systems engineering, and clinician-driven development.
  • Medical device mechanical design and development, including endoscopic vessel harvesting (EVH) systems and related disposable, high-volume platforms
  • Hands-on prototyping and test development: custom fixtures, Instron methods, rapid machining (3-axis CNC mill), and 3D printing (FDM) for iterative verification
  • Cross-functional execution skills: design controls mindset, risk/FMEA participation, DFM/DFMA, supplier coordination, and clear communication of technical tradeoffs

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead upstream technology strategies for next-generation medical devices, with emphasis on endoscopic and minimally invasive solutions.
  • Engage directly with clinicians and KOLs to identify unmet needs and translate clinical workflows into engineering requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership for endoscopic, disposable, and high-volume device platforms ensuring scalability, cost efficiency, and manufacturability.
  • Apply systems engineering and risk management principles early to reduce downstream regulatory and technical risk.
  • Collaborate across Marketing, Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to influence portfolio strategy.
  • Mentor senior engineers and strengthen upstream innovation rigor.
