We are looking for a Sr Principal Engineer, Enclosure Design, to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies. This role will be based in San Jose, CA. This is a fully on-site, in office role 5 days a week. In this role, you will own the design and development of advanced closure systems for Bloom Energy’s current and next generation products. This position is an end-to-end engineering role encompassing a fully functional design, aesthetics with integrated closures, for doors, hinges, handles, locks and special closure moving panels. The ideal candidate has a combination of hands-on experience, product design and leadership skills. They have experience in the automotive industry having delivered cars and trucks to the vehicle marketplace, or in NEMA 4X compliant enclosures, sealing strategies and manufacturing approaches that survive real world deployment for decades.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, with evidence of exceptional ability
  • 12+ years mechanical design experience in structural systems & enclosure design
  • Proven track record of ownership of enclosure and seal designs from concept (new or improved) through production
  • Strong background in DFMA for sheet metal, weldments, extrusions, and assemblies.
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks)
  • Comfortable moving between analysis, prototyping, and hands-on debugging
  • Experience using FEA to guide real engineering decisions
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and hit aggressive schedules

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs for next-generation enclosure architecture
  • Manage BOM structures and design changes
  • Create and modify 3D solid models in SolidWorks
  • Lead investigations into system quality issues, lifetime or reliability problems as discovered, mitigate future issues with root cause understanding.
  • Lead structural and enclosure design for Bloom products
  • Architect sealing & weatherproofing strategies for long-life deployments
  • Lead enclosure benchmarking for current and future products
  • Lead and manage the performance and regulatory testing
  • Interpret/develop Tolerance Analysis, CAE, DFM, DFMEA, PFMEA simulations/results and integrate feedback into product designs
  • Conduct root-cause failure analysis and implement corrective design improvements
  • Manage and collaborate with key suppliers (both internal and external) to support overall enclosure development milestones and prototype/ production build events
