About The Position

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) is seeking a Sr. Principal Cloud Engineer who will take part in the design, build, deploy, and maintenance of cloud-based systems and infrastructure to help the Digital Ecosystem Segment store data, run applications, and manage IT services efficiently and securely in a hybrid on-premise & cloud based environment. This role will be located in Roy, Utah.

Requirements

  • 8 Years with Bachelor’s in related field of study, 6 Years with Masters, 4 Years with PhD or 4 additional years in lieu of a degree.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval
  • Currently holds an IAT Level II certification per DoD 8570.01 such as CompTIA Security+ CE
  • Experience deploying and maintaining infrastructure with at least one major cloud provider, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience or strong understanding with Containerization and Orchestration technologies, such as Kubernetes, Podman, or OpenShift.
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration Management tools like Terraform & Ansible.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery pipelines using Gitlab and other CI/CD tools.
  • Proficient in scripting to support automation (ex. Python, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Experience supporting Windows Enterprise architecture and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or similar enterprise Linux distribution.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in AWS cloud platform Infrastructure management & services.
  • Strong experience with automation/configuration management using either Ansible, Chef or equivalent.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack.
  • Experience or strong understanding of networking with Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), Load Balancers, DNS, Firewall Rules, and Security Groups.
  • Experience with secrets (ex. Hashicorp Vault) and artifact management (Nexus, Harbor)
  • Experience and understanding of working within DoD cybersecurity compliance guidelines.
  • Detailed and team oriented with excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, reliable cloud infrastructure using IaC principles.
  • Take part in developing and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment processes.
  • Assist in automating operational processes and implementing the best tools and technologies to support development and operations.
  • Help to enforce best practices for system security and compliance holistically throughout the environment.
  • Support incident response efforts, including root cause analysis, to resolve system issues, and implement preventative measures.
  • Proactively monitor cloud systems for performance, security issues, and potential problems, then implement solutions to optimize efficiency and resource utilization.
  • Use scripting languages to automate routine administrative tasks, improving efficiency and reducing human error.
  • Define and document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance
