This role is responsible for the preparation, storage and distribution of medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Additionally responsible for inventory control in the absence of the buyer, orientation and training of technician staff, PI and QA data collection, and reports and other projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Training as per State Board of Pharmacy requirements for Pharmacy Technician.
  • Two years as a pharmacy technician in a hospital environment.
  • Knowledge of trade/generic drug names and aseptic technique for the preparation of all types of IVs.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Sufficient typing skills for computer order entry.
  • Good understanding of pharmacy systems, pharmacy's role in the hospital setting and the interface between pharmacy and other departments.
  • General understanding of pharmacy computer applications.
  • Technical expertise in personal computers.
  • Ability to use common reference material.
  • Ability to withstand stress of high activity area.
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written skills) in order to communicate effectively with co-workers, patients, and nursing/medical staff.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Pharmacy Technician License.

Nice To Haves

  • Annual 2 hours of stroke education required for those working at QVH.
