Sr. Electrical Engineer (PCB Design)

Sigma Design•Kirkland, WA
•$124,000 - $186,998•Onsite

About The Position

The Senior PCB Design Engineer owns and executes complex printed circuit board designs for advanced radar products and related hardware. The role works closely with Analog/Mixed-Signal, RF, Mechanical, and Manufacturing Engineering teams, as well as external suppliers, to turn schematics, performance requirements, and physical constraints into high-performance, reliable, and manufacturable PCB designs. The engineer contributes throughout the product lifecycle, from initial layout planning and design release through new product introduction, production, and ongoing product support. This position is fully onsite in Kirkland, Washington, Monday through Friday on a full-time day-shift schedule. The posting also describes the position as on-site/hybrid and requires consistent attendance at the Kirkland location. Applicants must be eligible to handle export-controlled technical data, including ITAR- and EAR-controlled information, or obtain required government authorizations.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Altium Designer or similar PCB design software.
  • Ability to interpret complex electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of PCB layout practices for RF, millimeter-wave, high-speed digital, mixed-signal, analog, and power applications.
  • Knowledge of PCB stackups, materials, controlled impedance, via structures, surface finishes, fabrication processes, and assembly methods.
  • Practical experience applying design-for-manufacturability, design-for-assembly, and design-for-test principles.
  • Knowledge of applicable IPC standards.
  • Understanding of controlled PCB fabrication, assembly, and engineering release documentation requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments with minimal direction.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with cross-functional engineering teams, fabricators, and contract manufacturers.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant PCB design experience, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
  • Eligibility to handle export-controlled technical data, including ITAR- and EAR-controlled information, or obtain required government authorizations.
  • Ability to meet the ongoing attendance requirement at the Kirkland, Washington location.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing PCBs for radar, aerospace, defense, RF, or other high-reliability electronic products.
  • Experience with high-density interconnect (HDI) technology.
  • Experience with high-layer-count PCB designs.
  • Experience with rigid-flex or flexible circuit design.
  • Experience with other advanced PCB technologies.
  • Experience with Arena or similar Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • IPC CID, CID+, or other relevant PCB design certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Independently plan and manage assigned PCB designs from schematic review through production release.
  • Estimate project requirements, establish priorities, identify dependencies and technical risks, and communicate project status.
  • Translate schematics, electrical requirements, and mechanical constraints into complex multilayer PCB assemblies.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and PCB fabricators to establish board outlines, stackups, materials, component placement, routing, controlled impedance, via structures, and other physical design requirements.
  • Apply signal integrity, power integrity, electromagnetic compatibility, thermal management, reliability, and design-for-manufacturability best practices.
  • Work with Electrical Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and external vendors to optimize designs for cost, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Support new product introduction, product revisions, and sustaining engineering changes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to resolve fabrication, assembly, build, yield, and production issues.
  • Create, review, and maintain component symbols, footprints, and 3D models within the company-wide component library.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced PCB designers.
  • Improve PCB design methods, standards, engineering tool workflows, and design review and release practices.
  • Work with RF Engineering and Analog/Mixed-Signal design teams to understand design requirements, key features, and vendor capabilities.
  • Implement PCB schematic and layout best practices to support product performance and reliability.
