About The Position

The Senior Paralegal will be a quick learner, flexible, pro-active, organized, and detail-oriented, and will work closely and collaboratively with the Deputy General Counsel and Counsel in all aspects of maintaining compliance under federal and state laws and regulations for the organization’s registered securities products and non-registered insurance products, while providing overall support to the organization's Legal & Compliance Team. This practice includes such fundamentals as SEC filings via EDGAR Next and state insurance product filings via SERFF. Related responsibilities relate to FINRA rules and regulations applicable to broker-dealers, contract and document drafting, and maintenance of contracts, records, and intellectual property. Venerable is currently working in a hybrid work model, and this position is located at our West Chester, PA office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Typically, five (5) or more years of experience as corporate paralegal or substantially equivalent experience performing paralegal responsibilities, as described above.
  • Knowledge of federal securities laws and regulations applicable to variable insurance products.
  • Knowledge of state insurance laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of and experience doing legal research on-line (e.g., using Lexis, Westlaw, and/or other tools).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including WORD, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams Meetings.
  • Dedication and a commitment to teamwork and mutual respect are also essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with SEC filings using EDGAR and/or EDGAR Next a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience with state insurance product filings using SERFF a plus.
  • Knowledge of FINRA rules and regulations applicable to broker-dealers a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the processes associated with and drafting/updating, and filing of various insurance product documents with the SEC and state insurance departments
  • Completing and filing periodic regulatory filings as needed
  • Renewing and maintaining insurance company licensing with the states
  • Coordination of preparation of materials for certain board meetings
  • Maintaining up-to-date 50 state surveys of laws related to powers of attorney, guardianships/conservatorships, and other applicable state laws
  • Analyzing documents for compliance with state laws, regulations, and case law
  • Responding to requests for information
  • Performing legal research and compile data
  • Monitoring changes of the securities laws applicable to variable insurance products and insurance laws and regulations
  • Will occasionally be called upon to work outside of regular office hours
