About The Position

This position is on-site at the customer location in Washington, DC. The role involves providing Computer Assisted Realtime Translation (CART) Services both on-site and remotely, with the option to furnish a transcript of the appointment. The CART Writer will attend meetings to provide services to include witnesses, defense counsel, and other DOJ components and agencies related to ongoing cases. CART services will also be provided during litigation, including at trial. The Sr Paralegal duties constitute 60% of the role, working under the direction of a Project Manager, Supervisory Paralegal, DOJ administrator, or a Project Supervisor. This role supports a fast-moving litigation environment with multiple cases in discovery, including handling of evidence and chain of custody requirements. It also supports pre-indictment activities such as database searches and reporting status to the case team. Data management within Relativity workspaces for multiple cases is a key responsibility. Collaboration with other agencies outside of DOJ may be required, as well as support for multiple trial teams and litigation case teams. Work products are reviewed prior to submission, but often developed with minimal direct supervision beyond written guidelines. Responsibilities include compiling, preparing, and summarizing relevant materials for attorneys in discovery and for motions, briefs, and other legal documents; summarizing depositions and other transcripts; maintaining case files; indexing, tracking, and controlling document discovery (both produced and received); indexing, tracking exhibits, and other materials at depositions and trials; preparing exhibit cross-references; assisting attorneys in the courtroom; and reviewing documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines. Other tasks include compiling documents for FOIA, production requests, and Congressional inquiries. Travel is required, and the ability to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization is necessary, which requires US Citizenship.
