This role is responsible for leading root cause analysis of complex tooling failures, owning tooling reliability, and driving long-term performance improvements. The technician will focus on improving uptime, scrap reduction, and mold lifespan through high-complexity machining and restoration of molds and tools. They will oversee critical fits, tolerances, and final validation of tooling, applying advanced repair technologies such as laser welding, coatings, and restoration methods. The position involves improving tooling performance based on injection molding process interaction, analyzing wear patterns, and recommending material or component improvements. The technician will also identify tooling design or performance issues, escalate recommendations to engineering teams, and support engineering by providing technical feedback. A key aspect of the role is reviewing CAD models and drawings to ensure manufacturability, serviceability, and repair effectiveness, while ensuring adherence to established technical standards, procedures, and best practices. The role also requires ensuring measurement systems and practices support high-precision requirements, analyzing dimensional data and variation trends, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost, downtime, and efficiency. Additionally, the technician will train and mentor Level 1 and Level 2 team members, provide technical guidance and support across tooling activities, and support planning, prioritization, and workload balancing. Collaboration with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve tooling issues is essential, as is interfacing with external vendors and tooling suppliers. The role also supports new tool launches, validations, and capital projects, with a willingness to travel domestically and internationally for training as needed.
