About The Position

The Sr Mechanical Engineer provides engineering support for highly technical and advanced manufacturing processes, applying specialized knowledge and skill as needed. The role includes project management; designing, developing, and evaluating quality-control functions for complex engineering projects; and developing innovative solutions to technical problems using mathematical, physical-science, and advanced-engineering methods. The engineer is a recognized authority in their area of expertise and works under general administrative direction, sometimes exercising latitude in unreviewed decisions. They plan projects and manage resources across multiple people and disciplines to meet quality, delivery, and cost objectives. The position conducts research and development, documents experiments in technical reports, mentors lower-level engineers, and uses data to recommend designs or design changes for instruments and test equipment. It also evaluates and implements technology that improves quality, flowtime, productivity, and operational surety, and works with design agencies or suppliers to resolve engineering and production issues. The position is located at the Kansas City National Security Campus in Kansas City, Missouri. The posting identifies the role as on-site, while also noting that remote, hybrid, or on-site work may be directed by management according to business needs. Travel may be required, with the posting specifying up to 15% in the requirements and 10–25% in additional information.
