About The Position

Design Hire is seeking a Sr Mechanical Engineer to design and develop HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, and other building projects. The role independently manages mechanical designs, provides technical guidance to junior engineers, and contributes to project delivery across new construction, renovations, and building improvement projects.

The position involves creating engineering calculations, selecting equipment, preparing system layouts, specifications, and construction documents using Revit and other design tools. It also requires coordination with other disciplines, technical oversight and drawing review, mentoring, and support for project management, client coordination, field investigations, and construction administration. Designs must comply with applicable building codes and industry standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Revit for mechanical building systems design.
• Extensive experience designing HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, or similar building projects.
• Experience with plumbing and fire protection systems design and coordination.
• Strong understanding of mechanical building codes, engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and construction documentation.
• Excellent communication, technical leadership, and project coordination skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience within an MEP or architectural/engineering consulting firm.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license, or actively pursuing licensure with the ability to obtain it in the near future.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for new construction, renovations, and building improvement projects.
• Develop engineering calculations, equipment selections, system layouts, specifications, and construction documents using Revit and other design tools.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, structural, architectural, and other engineering disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide technical oversight, review engineering drawings, mentor junior engineers, and ensure compliance with applicable building codes and industry standards.
• Support project management, client coordination, field investigations, construction administration, and overall project delivery.
