Sr. Mechanical Engineer
About The Position
AECOM has a position available for a Mechanical Engineer to support our team addressing the most challenging engineering tasks in power generation. AECOM's broad technical capabilities, global footprint and experience in executing large scale projects uniquely position us to lead in traditional steam, thermal power generation and advanced nuclear technologies. This includes being a part of the first-of-a-kind program with AECOM partners advancing the innovative stellarator technology to the world. The position is an opportunity to directly work in the design of fusion island support components and systems. The engineer will work primarily at the technology developer's office, collaborating closely with their team. The successful candidate will possess a high level of understanding and experience in mechanical engineering design and technology principles for process/mechanical and generation projects, and is expected to be a detail-oriented, experienced engineer capable of making decisions independently.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 6 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering for industrial or power generation projects
Nice To Haves
- Professional Engineering licensure
- 10+ years of experience preferred
- 2+ yrs experience as project technical mechanical lead
- Demonstrated experience with specifying mechanical equipment (e.g. rotating equipment, tanks, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchanges)
- Familiarity with diverse metallurgy
- Demonstrated experience with engineering software packages: Caesar II, Pipe-Flo (or other hydraulic modeling application), AspenTech applications and/or Applied Flow Technology applications
- Experience with nuclear power generation and thermal power generation
- Experience executing work in 3D model environments and collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks, ACC)
- Experience with AutoCAD Plant3D Smart P&ID’s
- Strong knowledge of piping specifications and pipe stress analysis
- Strong experience leveraging laser scan or other data sets to inform design development
- Knowledge of typical stakeholders and be able to anticipate data requests and expectations
- Demonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams
- Comprehensive knowledge of industry (incl safety) standards (e.g. API, ASME)
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the mechanical engineering design work on assigned projects
- Serve as lead engineer on all size projects maintaining responsibility for deliverable development
- Coordination with the mechanical piping design team to direct completion of engineering drawings.
- Multi-discipline collaboration on the development of equipment general arrangements, P&ID’s, isometrics, asset and tie-in lists, orthographic, etc.
- Provides technical expertise for risk assessments, due diligence and other studies presenting complex technical solutions to clients.
- Generate applicable mechanical engineering deliverables to support all phases of scope development – Feasibility through Detail Design
- Develop construction and equipment specifications and material requisitions
- Home office support of projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning
- Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others
- Participate in project and client meetings
- Interact with vendors, regulatory agencies and contractors
- Assist with internal and external presentations
- Occasional travel to client and/or project sites
