About The Position

The RAPID division is the leading provider of reticle inspection solutions for the semiconductor industry. We provide inspection solutions to both the mask shops and the semiconductor fabs to ensure that lithography yields are consistently high, enabling cost-effective manufacturing. We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced semiconductor equipment. This role involves working on precision mechanisms, Ultra High Vacuum systems, electron beam optic-mechanical design, vibration isolation, and electronic packaging. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to bring cutting-edge technologies from concept to production. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will craft sophisticated precision mechanical and opto-mechanical inspection systems for next-generation semiconductor equipment. You will take full ownership of the design process—from requirements specification and feasibility studies to detailed design, prototyping, testing, and handoff to manufacturing. This is a hands-on role where you will:

Requirements

  • Doctorate (Academic) Degree and 0 years related work experience; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 5 years

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of physics and mechanics
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience in semiconductor or high-tech equipment design
  • Proven ability to take designs from concept through manufacturing

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, fabrication, and performance characterization of advanced mechanical systems.
  • Build and maintain technical relationships with vendors.
  • Own the full lifecycle of mechanical design including:
  • Requirements specification
  • Feasibility studies
  • Analysis and FEA modeling
  • Conceptual and detailed design
  • Creation of detailed drawings
  • Design review presentations
  • Procurement of prototype parts
  • Support for prototype testing and system integration
  • Handoff to manufacturing and issue resolution through all product phases
  • Apply advanced knowledge of tolerance analysis, GD&T, error budgeting, and requirement flow-up/flow-down.
  • Perform finite element analysis, creep and stress relaxation, modal analysis, and thermal analysis (heat transfer, gradients, transients, thermo-elastic effects).
  • Select materials and resolve fabrication methods.
  • Utilize 3D solid modeling CAD tools—ProE/Creo strongly preferred.
  • Understand and apply mechanical manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.

Benefits

  • KLA’s total rewards package for employees may also include participation in performance incentive programs and eligibility for additional benefits including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, life, and other voluntary benefits, 401(K) including company matching, employee stock purchase program (ESPP), student debt assistance, tuition reimbursement program, development and career growth opportunities and programs, financial planning benefits, wellness benefits including an employee assistance program (EAP), paid time off and paid company holidays, and family care and bonding leave.
  • Interns are eligible for some of the benefits listed.
