About The Position

Teledyne Brown Engineering is seeking a Senior Designer to support the design and development of Space Flight Hardware for the Space Launch System and other space hardware, including payloads. This role involves creating 3-D models, preparing production drawings, and applying knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes. The designer will participate in design reviews, collaborate with engineers and manufacturing personnel, and serve as a liaison with operations during fabrication. A key aspect of the role includes performing tolerance analysis and applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles. The position may also involve technically directing the work of lower-level drafters and providing expertise in CAD software. Daily availability, including evenings and weekends, may be necessary to meet goals and deadlines.

Requirements

• Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing Requirement experience required.
• Must be able to work manufacturing and integration issues as required.
• Associates Degree in a related field and a minimum of 10 plus years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Working knowledge of PTC Creo/Pro E Computer Aided Design Software.
• US Citizenship.
• Ability to travel domestically approximately +/-10% is a plus.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in design and development of Space Flight Hardware preferred.
• Windchill administrative experience is a plus.
• Ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Designs major segments of complex subsystems.
• Creates 3-D models of parts and assemblies to develop a subsystem layout.
• Prepares production drawings based on these models.
• Applies knowledge of materials, finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes to drawings.
• Participates in design reviews.
• Works closely with engineers and manufacturing personnel to ensure that all aspects of the design are understood.
• Serves as liaison with operations during fabrication of parts to ensure that all design issues are resolved and drawings are updated.
• Performs tolerance analysis on mating parts to ensure proper fit.
• Applies knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to designs.
• Technically directs work and checks drawings of lower level drafters.
• Provides expertise in CAD software for specific problem solving on a project.
• Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals/deadlines.
