About The Position

Terra Nova Technologies (TNT), a subsidiary of Cementation, designs, supplies, delivers, and installs material handling systems for mining and mineral processing, coal, aggregates, and cement customers worldwide. Our experience includes the delivery of mobile stacking systems, crushing plants, and conveyor belt projects (stockpiling, overland, underground, in-mine, and in-plant conveyors) in 15 countries across 6 continents. TNT currently has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Designer. Reporting to the Design Manager, the position will be based in our Boise, Idaho office. This position has the overall responsibility of providing material handling design services across a variety of projects.

Requirements

  • Mechanical Design Drafter or similar.
  • More than 10 years of experience in the mining industry with an emphasis on the design of conveyor belts, feeders, and/or crushing plants.
  • More than 7 years of experience in the mechanical design of projects related to feeders, belts, or crushing stations.
  • Advanced AutoCAD skills required.
  • Ability to manage change
  • Self-initiator
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Self-critical of one's own work

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Advance Steel in steel is an asset.
  • Experience with Smart Plant is an asset.
  • Bilingualism is an asset but not required.
  • Availability to travel both domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design drawings, including but not limited to: site plans, general layouts, floor plans, and elevations for above-ground and underground structures, mechanical installations, and equipment
  • Create preliminary drawings, designs, and/or rough sketches
  • Generate drawings according to job specifications, taking into account clearances and tolerances
  • Obtain and consult with site personnel or other relevant professionals as needed to gain knowledge and expertise to improve or revise designs
  • Check or verify the dimensional accuracy and fit of engineering designs
  • Work in cooperation with project team leaders, project managers, and the project engineer to establish design and drafting criteria
  • Design bulk material handling systems for industrial applications, such as mining, port facilities, and process plants
  • Provide guidance and support to less experienced team members, including but not limited to overseeing the production of designs/drawings, as well as contributing to project schedules, workforce planning, and progress reports
  • Work in a positive team environment on large, multidisciplinary projects
  • Interact closely with other disciplines to coordinate overall project work
  • Review project documents before issuing for scope and presentation, including verifying technical accuracy
  • Work in accordance with all TNT health and safety rules and regulations
  • Be aware of any health and safety hazards in the workplace
  • Report health and safety breaches/hazards to the Health and Safety Department
  • Participate in departmental safety meetings and incident presentations
