About The Position

Pratt & Whitney’s Hot Section Engineering Mechanical Design team is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer, ideally with engine systems expertise. Turbine or nozzle design experience is preferred; candidates with a strong turbomachinery background will also be considered. The engineer will work with the Integrated Product Team (IPT), including project management, structural analysis, durability, aero-thermal engineering, and product definition, and will lead interactions with other Hot Section Engineering IPTs, focusing on the F100 and TF33 programs. The position calls for strong leadership, rotor design experience, and an interest in advancing aerospace and defense engineering. The role is onsite at the Oklahoma City Campus, which supports engineering activities for military engine hardware across compression systems, hot section, and mechanical system modules. Work is connected to inspected hardware from military engines. Travel may be required up to 10%. U.S. citizenship is required to access information under the program/contract; no security clearance is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree, or at least 3 years with an advanced degree.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Travel up to 10%.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years of experience with hardware, blueprints, dimensions and tolerances, and/or manufacturing methods, including GD&T.
  • Aircraft engine experience in the design, development, manufacture, testing, and/or maintenance of jet engine compressors or turbines.
  • Proficiency in Teamcenter, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS, and classical methods of analysis.
  • Experience in turbine or nozzle design; strong turbomachinery experience is also considered.
  • Rotor design experience.
  • Strong leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the resolution of challenging and complex mechanical engineering issues and develop robust, balanced system solutions with limited supervision.
  • Facilitate outsourced work through technical reviews and oversight to maintain quality and effectiveness.
  • Build and maintain trust with internal and external customers by delivering technically sound solutions and executing tasks precisely.
  • Partner with the Customer Technical Support (MCSS) team to address customer inquiries, evaluate deteriorated hardware, update engine maintenance manual limits, and lead root cause analyses for field events.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Engineering Support Teams to resolve production and sustainment challenges and support timely engine delivery.
  • Drive the development and implementation of engineering changes that meet program schedules and performance metrics, including cost, weight, and component reliability.
  • Lead interactions with other Hot Section Engineering IPTs, with a focus on the F100 and TF33 programs.
