Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer (Opto-Mechanical)

KLAMilpitas, CA
$117,800 - $200,300Onsite

About The Position

KLA is a global leader in diversified electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Virtually every electronic device in the world is produced using our technologies. The RAPID division is the world leading provider of reticle inspection solutions for the semiconductor industry. The company provides inspection solutions to both the mask shops and the semiconductor fabs to ensure that lithography yields are consistently high thus enabling cost-effective manufacturing. This role involves the design of precision components, modules, and subsystems focused on optic mounting, actuating, and alignment, to support the design of cutting-edge reticle inspection tools. These tasks will require working with other engineering groups such as Optical engineers, Systems engineers, and Manufacturing + Service engineers to ensure flawless integration and test at the subsystem and system level. The role also involves working closely with and managing suppliers to ensure all design requirements are specified and achieved, and addressing, resolving, and documenting product issues through the product development phases.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in 3D solid modeling
  • Minimum 1 years work experience in FEA, GD&T
  • Strong background in the design of mechanisms.
  • Basic understanding of optical subsystems.
  • Familiar with manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding fabrication and castings.
  • Team player, who takes initiative and demonstrates perseverance and a drive to be better.

Nice To Haves

  • Creo experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in thermal, structural, and fluid flow modeling and analysis (Creo Simulate, ANSYS, CF Design skill strongly preferred).
  • Experience in several of these areas is desirable: opto-mechanical systems, ultra-high vacuum systems, design of inspection equipment or similar instruments, motion controls, measurement instrumentation, tooling & test fixture design, supplier management, new product introduction

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the complete design process, including: Drive design from beginning to end including requirements specification, feasibility studies, conceptual and detailed design, build and release to manufacturing
  • Develop and track cost and schedule
  • Generate detailed models and drawings, using 3D solid modeling (Creo)
  • Conduct various analysis, such as fluid, thermal, and vibrational, through both hand calcs and FEA modeling
  • Understand and use Geometric Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Perform detailed tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Participate in and lead design reviews to obtain a peer-oriented design assessment throughout design process
  • Procure, assemble, and test prototype material
  • Support system integration and testing
  • Create assembly and test procedures
  • Generate documentation and support release and handoff to manufacturing.
