About The Position

Robinhood is seeking an experienced financial news reporter to join their Sherwood Media team. This role focuses on delivering timely and relevant financial news and insights to Robinhood traders and readers. The ideal candidate will be adept at monitoring multiple sources, identifying impactful events, and succinctly explaining market-moving news. The role requires the ability to cover daily financial news cycles, produce both short-form and long-form content, and write engaging headlines. The candidate should thrive in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment, be experienced with analytics and content management tools, and understand how to communicate with a distributed editorial team during market volatility. This role is based in New York, NY; Chicago, IL; and Washington, DC offices, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week, aligning with Robinhood's in-office working environment philosophy.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in a newsroom setting.
• Previous experience covering markets news, working in, and reacting to breaking-news situations.
• A deep familiarity with different content management systems, data analytics tools, and the ability to program within multiple touch points with precision.
• A love for financial and business news, and comprehensive grasp of other key editorial players in the landscape, with an eagerness to make people’s financial lives better through news that delivers key insights and education.
• Quick, clear, and engaging communication skills, with the ability to break down financial concepts and make them easy to understand and digestible for a broad audience.
• An ownership mentality, constantly looking for the next story, and driven to hone your craft and find better ways to serve our audience.
• Prioritize quality and pay strong attention to detail, factual precision, and nuance.
• Flexibility and willingness to collaborate cross-functionally, experiment, and develop new tools.

Responsibilities

• Report on earnings and news moving individual equities, sectors, or the broader market in both short-form and longer, deeper reported pieces.
• Constantly monitor various sources of breaking news and stock market data to discover market news, write headlines for banners, and decide on the level of reporting needed.
• Work closely with editors and reporters to plan, pitch, develop, and fact-check stories, maintaining knowledge of top companies of interest to Robinhood traders and covering key moments that affect their stock.
• Help share and execute experiments and initiatives to find new, strategic ways to reach the audience within the Robinhood app.
• Ensure news products span a balance of perspectives and topics, and uphold Sherwood's editorial and ethics standards.
