Sr Manufacturing Engineer, Mechanical Fluids Assemblies

Relativity Space•Long Beach, CA
•$122,000 - $182,000

About The Position

The Sr Manufacturing Engineer will own vehicle subassembly hardware from design release through build, test, and delivery, taking responsibility for execution readiness and product quality across high-volume subassemblies. The hardware may span fluids, electrical, or structural assemblies. The role focuses on developing manufacturing processes that can scale as production increases. The engineer will create and release detailed build flows, work instructions, and test procedures; support first-article builds; and provide hands-on floor support during build and test. They will resolve issues in real time, use technician feedback to improve processes, and coordinate with design, supply chain, production, and test teams to ensure part readiness, tooling availability, schedule alignment, and smooth handoffs. The role also contributes to long-term manufacturing systems and infrastructure, including tooling strategies, ERP/MES workflows, and production documentation standards. The Stage Manufacturing team builds Terran R’s primary structures and develops the systems and processes needed to manufacture the rocket. Engineers and technicians collaborate closely to solve production challenges, improve processes, and support a ramp to higher production rates.

Requirements

  • Degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience building and testing hardware in a manufacturing or integration environment.
  • Experience investigating hardware issues, resolving non-conformances, and driving root cause analysis with effective corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with general assembly and test procedures, including tolerance stack-up analysis, structural proof testing, and pressurized leak checks.
  • Ability to work across design, manufacturing, supply chain, and test teams to support hardware quality and schedule alignment.
  • Ability to define and roll out new processes from scratch while collaborating with technicians, engineers, and external vendors.
  • Proficiency in GD&T, CAD, and basic design or test analysis.
  • Experience in at least two of the following: LOX cleanliness, leak checking, sensor checkouts, tube bending, tool design, crane operations, or subassembly builds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting new aerospace product introduction or transitioning hardware from prototype to production, especially in a high-rate or scaling environment.
  • Experience authoring and executing test procedures, including acting as a test conductor for integrated system verification.
  • Familiarity with hazardous operations, fluid system safety, or test execution involving pressurized or high-risk environments.
  • Experience in a fast-paced and lean environment, including direct vendor engagement, tool development, or leading a small team through an ambiguous build or test effort.

Responsibilities

  • Own hardware from design release through build, test, and delivery for vehicle sub-systems, ensuring execution readiness and product quality across high-volume subassemblies.
  • Develop and release detailed build flows, work instructions, and test procedures for repeatable, high-quality execution.
  • Develop scalable processes to support first builds and production-rate increases.
  • Support first-article builds, focusing on manufacturability, repeatability, and quality.
  • Provide hands-on floor support during build and test, resolving issues in real time and incorporating technician feedback.
  • Drive continuous improvement across hardware flow and process discipline.
  • Coordinate with design, supply chain, production, and test teams to ensure part readiness, tooling availability, schedule alignment, and smooth handoffs between build stages.
  • Contribute to long-term manufacturing systems and infrastructure, including tooling strategies, ERP/MES workflows, and production documentation standards.
  • Investigate hardware issues, resolve non-conformances, and drive root cause analysis with effective corrective actions.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • Generous PTO and sick leave policy.
  • Parental leave.
  • Annual learning and development stipend.
