About The Position

PayPal's Threat Detection Engineering (TDE) team sits at the center of our cybersecurity defense capability — translating adversary intelligence into high-confidence detections that protect hundreds of millions of customers and the world's largest FinTech platform. We're looking for a Senior Manager to lead this team through an ambitious transformation to an AI-enabled, threat-led detection discipline. You will lead a high-performing team of detection engineers, SOAR developers, and platform engineers. You'll have access to an industry-leading security stack and a mandate to push the boundaries of what detection engineering can be.

Requirements

  • 8+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience leading others

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years in cybersecurity with at least 3 years in an engineering management role
  • Experience managing detection or SOC engineering teams in an enterprise or high-scale financial services environment
  • Exposure to purple team programs and offensive security collaboration
  • Familiarity with risk-based alerting (RBA), case management platforms, and telemetry pipeline design

Responsibilities

  • Recognized as a cyber threat management expert, independently resolving the most complex challenges, and providing strategic direction on problem resolution across the security domain.
  • Define methods and procedures for new or special assignments, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive security initiatives that align with business needs and objectives.
  • Lead complex, high-impact security projects of diverse scope, applying an in-depth understanding of business trends and security challenges to develop innovative solutions that strengthen threat management and overall security posture.
  • Possess a keen awareness of the broader impact of decisions, with initiatives often leading to enterprise-wide improvements that enhance security practices, operational efficiency and organizational resilience.
  • Lead a cyber threat management team; set clear priorities and define actionable plans, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Guide team members through complex challenges, fostering their growth and development while maintaining a focus on high-impact results.
