About The Position

The Sr. Manager, Software Engineering will provide hands-on technical and architectural leadership spanning product, platform, and integration initiatives. This role requires a tactful, action-oriented leader who stays deeply involved in architecture and day-to-day engineering execution—driving delivery through Agile methodologies—while coaching and mentoring engineers and building a high-performing team aligned with EG4’s mission. The ideal candidate is a hands-on architect and engineer, proficient in Angular, React, Java, Python, and AWS cloud services, with strong full-stack application development experience and a proven track record of leading Agile teams. Experience with VPPs, solar market operations, third-party API integrations, and firmware collaboration for safety and UL compliance is strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with at least 2–3 years leading or mentoring engineering teams.
  • Proven hands-on coding and architectural experience in: Front-end: Angular, React; Back-end: Java, Python; Cloud: AWS (deep, hands-on), CI/CD, container orchestration.
  • Experience with full-stack application development and deployment in production environments.
  • Knowledge of solar and energy storage systems, VPP frameworks, and utility program integration.
  • Experience with third-party API integrations.
  • Familiarity with solar compliance standards and applying them in product development.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills, with a track record of developing engineering talent.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Agile teams (Scrum/Kanban) and managing 5–6 concurrent projects from planning through delivery.
  • Excellent communication and the ability to work tactfully across teams to align priorities and deliver results.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the solar and renewable energy sector.
  • Familiarity with firmware development and hardware/software integration.
  • Understanding of TPO business models and grid-interactive energy systems.
  • Experience implementing monitoring, observability, and edge device communication protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute the software engineering strategy in alignment with EG4’s product and business goals, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage 5–6 concurrent projects using Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)—including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and iterative releases—providing tactful leadership to remove roadblocks, gain cross-functional alignment, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Directly accountable to architect, design, and hands-on develop full-stack applications (Angular, React, Java, Python) supporting EG4’s monitoring platforms, EMS, and customer-facing solutions.
  • Lead and hands-on contribute to cloud architecture and development on AWS, implementing best practices for CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and scalable, cost-efficient deployments.
  • Drive API development and third-party integrations, supporting VPP participation, utility interfaces, and TPO (Third-Party Ownership) models.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineering teams to align software development with device-level firmware logic, safety, and UL/IEEE compliance requirements.
  • Establish and maintain engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing, and documentation standards.
  • Work closely with product management, hardware, and compliance teams to plan, build, and launch new products supporting EG4’s roadmap.
  • Guide the implementation of monitoring, analytics, and observability frameworks for deployed applications and services.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and compliance standards (UL1741, UL1973, Sunspec and IEEE 2030.5) and proactively align the software roadmap to evolving requirements.
