About The Position

The Sr. Manager, Portfolio Project Management is a strategic leadership role within Supply Chain & Operations (SC&O), responsible for overseeing a portfolio of complex, cross‑functional initiatives that enable supply continuity, operational excellence, and business growth. This role drives disciplined portfolio governance, prioritization, and execution across manufacturing, planning, logistics, and external partners. The position offers high visibility and impact, partnering closely with senior leaders to translate strategy into results while building strong project management capabilities across the organization. Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopedics business to establish a standalone orthopedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • 8–10 years of progressive experience in project, program, or portfolio management within supply chain, operations, manufacturing, or a related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross‑functional portfolios with significant business impact.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, including influencing at the senior leadership level.
  • Proven ability to establish governance, prioritize initiatives, and manage resources across competing demands.
  • Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or life sciences).
  • Strong analytical, financial, and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • English language proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (MBA or MS) in a related discipline.
  • Experience in global or multi‑site supply chain operations.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Advanced proficiency with project/portfolio management tools and enterprise systems.
  • Prior people‑management or matrix leadership experience.
  • Additional languages.
  • PMP, PgMP, or equivalent project/portfolio management certification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and govern a portfolio of SC&O projects, ensuring alignment with business strategy, financial targets, and operational priorities.
  • Establish and maintain portfolio management standards, cadence, and reporting, including prioritization, resource allocation, risk management, and performance metrics.
  • Partner with cross‑functional leaders (Manufacturing, Planning, Procurement, Quality, R&D, and Commercial) to drive on‑time, on‑budget execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Identify interdependencies, risks, and trade‑offs across initiatives and proactively recommend mitigation and optimization strategies.
  • Provide executive‑level communication, including portfolio dashboards, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Lead, coach, and develop project managers and portfolio resources, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
  • Drive adoption of project and portfolio management best practices, tools, and methodologies across SC&O.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable quality, regulatory, and governance requirements within a regulated medical device environment.
