About The Position

Manages a complex, dynamic, multi-company, multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits and taxes, consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws, for Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GCNA) and its affiliated entities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, or equivalent work experience, required.
  • Must have 7+ years’ experience with high volume employer (1,500+ employees)
  • Must have experience overseeing multi-state payroll processing.
  • Must be familiar with payroll laws and practices, including but not limited to California, Arizona and Maryland.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proven ability to be analytical and handle data effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development.
  • Strong history of quickly building relationships, gaining credibility, and partnering with departments leaders and peers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to speak and read English proficiently.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Possess the maturity to handle sensitive information.
  • Experience with Workday Payroll and ADP required
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for position.

  • experience with Paylocity preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures accurate reporting of payroll returns (W-2’s, 941’s, Unemployment, Workers’ Comp, etc.).
  • Monitors submissions of approved timesheets; ensures valid data transfers to/from payroll service.
  • Resolves customer complaints or answers customers’ questions regarding payroll policies and procedures.
  • Provides team members with guidance in handling difficult or complex problems or in resolving escalated complaints or disputes.
  • Partners with Human Resources to develop and maintain efficiencies with payroll and benefits.
  • Researches, compiles, and prepares reports, manuals, correspondence, or other information required by leadership or governmental agencies.
  • Ensures all wages, taxes, benefit deductions, etc. are handled in accordance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Critically reviews and analyzes current payroll, benefits, and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best practice operations.
  • Manages the timely and accurate generation of payroll and other withholding reports.
  • Verifies compliance with federal and state payroll requirements, and stays current with changes in the law.
  • Documents payroll processes and procedures and ensures compliance with government requirements.
  • Collaborates with other members of the Finance team to ensure the accuracy of any changes made to the Workday Payroll module configuration.
  • Maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance.
  • Responsible for performance management (coaching, discipline, performance improvement plans, and annual reviews), staffing, compensation, and development of Team Members.
  • Plays critical role in driving company culture change efforts and change management processes.
