About The Position

The Senior Manager IT, Enterprise Architecture - Commercial is responsible for leading architecture strategy, engagement, and governance for Constellation’s Commercial business. This role partners with Commercial business leaders, IT leadership, architects, engineers, cybersecurity, data and analytics, operations, and delivery teams to align technology investments with business priorities, enterprise standards, regulatory expectations, and long-term technology direction. The Senior Manager serves as a trusted advisor and people leader, helping teams move from business need to secure, scalable, and sustainable technology outcomes. The role leads architecture planning, supports major Commercial modernization and transformation initiatives, improves the architecture engagement model, and strengthens architecture’s role as an enabler of innovation and business value.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline (Computer Science, Computer Science Engineer, Engineering Technology, etc)
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in IT architecture and technology-heavy roles, with a significant focus on platform design and development.
  • 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience, either through direct people management or by leading large-scale technical projects involving cross-functional teams and senior-level stakeholders.
  • Analytical and problem resolution skills, adaptability to change and strong initiative
  • Deep expertise in designing and building scalable, reliable, and secure enterprise-grade IT platforms.
  • Strong understanding of architectural patterns (e.g., microservices, serverless, event-driven, API-first).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Commercial business capabilities such as retail energy, wholesale trading, customer platforms, pricing, sales, marketing, billing, market operations, commodity trading, risk management, or customer-facing digital products.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate architecture strategy, decisions, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to technical, business, and executive audiences.
  • Experience defining or governing technology strategies that span applications, data platforms, integration platforms, cloud services, infrastructure, cybersecurity, AI, automation, digital capabilities, and emerging technologies.
  • Experience leading people directly or providing sustained leadership to matrixed teams, architects, engineers, consultants, vendors, and strategic programs.
  • Familiarity with DevOps principles and practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, cloud platforms, and secure delivery practices.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and experience integrating security, privacy, compliance, and resiliency into architectural designs.
  • Experience with specific energy industry software, protocols, or business platforms, including retail/customer systems, wholesale trading for commodities, data platforms, market integrations, or OT/IT convergence.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Commercial business and technology leaders to translate business strategies for retail energy, wholesale trading, customer operations, pricing, sales, billing, and market-facing capabilities into actionable architecture roadmaps.
  • Provide architecture leadership for Commercial modernization initiatives, including customer platforms, trading and risk capabilities, market integrations, data and analytics platforms, and digital products that improve business agility and operational effectiveness.
  • Define, evangelize, and govern the architectural principles, standards, and best practices across IT platforms.
  • Develop and maintain the long-term platform architecture roadmap, aligning it with business objectives, technology trends, and industry standards within the energy sector.
  • Lead the design and implementation of highly scalable, resilient, secure, and performant platform solutions.
  • Drive the adoption of modern architectural patterns (e.g. microservices, event-driven architectures, cloud-native) and relevant technologies.
  • Conduct architectural reviews, provide technical guidance, and ensure adherence to architectural standards across development teams.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools that enhance platform capabilities and efficiency.
  • Proactively identify architectural risks and technical debt, proposing and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, operations, and cybersecurity teams to translate business requirements into robust architectural designs.
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert, providing hands-on architectural guidance and problem-solving for complex technical challenges.
  • Oversee the implementation of architectural designs, ensuring alignment with defined standards and quality.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitive landscape, especially within the energy and IT domains.
  • Champion innovation and research into new architectural approaches and technologies that can benefit the organization.
