About The Position

Application close date: Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers you will be the Senior Manager of Gen 2.0 Tank Fabrication, and will own the production execution of the most structurally complex and schedule-critical subsystem on the vehicle — the propellant tank. You will lead across Tank Fabrication, Dome Machining & Assembly, and Barrel Fabrication & Assembly, and you will be the single accountable production leader for the work centers that sit on the program's primary critical path.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 10+ years of progressive manufacturing operations experience, with at least 4 years in a people management role
  • Demonstrated experience leading production operations for large-scale metallic structures — aluminum alloy fabrication, friction stir welding (FSW), or equivalent precision welding processes strongly preferred
  • Experience standing up or activating a new production work center or manufacturing line
  • Proven ability to manage production schedules in a high-complexity, low-volume, high-consequence manufacturing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of NDT methods (UT, RT, PT) as applied to aerospace structural components
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems in a production planning context

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with aluminum-lithium alloys (AL2050 or equivalent) in aerospace structural applications
  • Background in cryogenic propellant tank fabrication, pressure vessel manufacturing, or launch vehicle structures
  • Familiarity with Vertical Assembly Center (VAC) or large-diameter automated welding systems
  • Experience managing production operations through a first article build in an aerospace or defense program
  • Familiarity with ITS (Integrated Tooling System) or equivalent tooling lifecycle management systems
  • PMP or equivalent program management certification

Responsibilities

  • Lead all GS2 Gen 2.0 tank fabrication production operations across Horizon's Low Bay and High Bay, including Dome Machining Barrel Fabrication, Barrel Integration and Post-Proof NDT
  • Develop and manage the production schedule to meet first-article build objectives and subsequent rate ramp targets.
  • Own the production schedule from raw material receipt through tank proof test acceptance
  • Execute rate ramp from Rate 12 (1/month) through Rate 60 (3/month) by Q3 2028 on to Rate 100 in 2029.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and implement capacity, tooling, and process solutions to meet demand.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Test, Facilities and Advanced Manufacturing teams to introduce new equipment, processes, and production systems into operations.
  • Ensure production readiness of new work centers and systems, including planning, validation, and operational handoff.
  • Enforce design and interface control baselines to protect schedule, cost, and quality objectives.
  • Act as the primary interface between Design Engineering and Production for assigned products, ensuring manufacturability, configuration control, and smooth design handoffs.
  • Represent production operations in all tank-related design reviews through CDR and FDR
  • Plan and execute staffing ramp-up to support increasing production rates and facility activations.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of managers, supervisors, and production technicians.
  • Establish and maintain standard work, operating procedures, quality gates, and shift structures for all assigned work centers.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
