About The Position

Ocugen is seeking a highly motivated Sr Manager, Financial Planning, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting to support the Company’s growing finance organization. This role will do forecasting, budgeting, SEC reporting, technical accounting, and core accounting operations to ensure accurate financial reporting, operational visibility, compliance, and strategic decision support across the organization. The ideal candidate will bring strong biotech or life sciences experience, deep expertise in forecasting and public company reporting, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment. This individual will partner closely with executive leadership and department heads to support financial discipline, operational planning, SEC compliance, and corporate objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, preferably within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industries.
  • Strong experience in forecasting, budgeting, financial modeling, SEC reporting, and technical accounting required.
  • Public company experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Company’s annual budget process, quarterly reforecasting, and long-range financial planning activities.
  • Develop and maintain detailed operating and cash flow forecasts, including headcount, clinical development, manufacturing, and G&A spending projections.
  • Prepare monthly forecasting updates and variance analyses against budget and prior forecasts.
  • Build and maintain financial models to support strategic initiatives, resource allocation, financing activities, and scenario planning.
  • Partner with department leaders across R&D, Clinical, Manufacturing, Commercial, and Corporate functions to develop accurate forecasts and monitor spending trends.
  • Monitor cash runway, burn rate, and operational spending to support corporate planning activities.
  • Prepare financial materials and presentations for senior leadership, the Audit Committee, and Board of Directors.
  • Support executive leadership with financial reporting, business insights, and decision-making analyses.
  • Lead the preparation and filing of quarterly and annual reports on Forms 10-Q and 10-K, as well as Forms 8-K, in accordance with SEC regulations.
  • Develop and manage SEC reporting calendars to ensure timely completion of all filings and disclosures.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Finance, HR, and external advisors to ensure accurate and complete financial disclosures and footnotes.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of external financial statements and supporting disclosures.
  • Stay current on SEC rules, reporting requirements, and emerging accounting guidance, implementing updates to reporting processes as necessary.
  • Support financing transactions, investor-related financial analyses, and external reporting requirements.
  • Research, interpret, and apply U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations related to complex accounting transactions and new business activities.
  • Lead implementation and adoption of new accounting standards and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare technical accounting memoranda and maintain documentation supporting significant accounting conclusions.
  • Support equity accounting, stock compensation accounting, and other technical accounting areas as needed.
  • Assist in the ongoing implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of SOX compliance and internal control processes.
  • Partner with internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews, annual audits, and SOX testing activities.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen financial reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, accruals, reconciliations, and monthly close activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Assist with implementation and optimization of ERP systems, reporting tools, and financial processes.
  • Manage and mentor members of the finance and accounting team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to special projects and cross-functional initiatives as needed.
