About The Position

The Manager, Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting, will partner with stakeholders across the Salesforce Finance function and the broader business to develop smart, workable, and GAAP-compliant solutions to a variety of complex and emerging technical accounting and SEC Reporting matters. The ideal candidate must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment that requires multi-tasking and the management of competing priorities. A successful applicant will have a strong working understanding of US GAAP and SEC Reporting standards, and be comfortable researching and documenting conclusions for unique transactions and emerging guidance. The candidate should also possess analytical skills, high attention to detail, and familiarity with financial statement review. This individual should enjoy developing a broad network of business partners and stakeholders, and possess effective written and verbal communication skills that resonate with audiences ranging from staff to senior executives.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent relevant experience required. Experience will be evaluated based on the Values & Behaviors for the role (e.g. extracurricular leadership roles, military experience, volunteer roles, work experience, etc.)
  • CPA strongly desired
  • 5+ years combined Big 4 and Industry experience, with relevant experience in financial statement review and technical accounting research
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to present ideas in a clear, concise fashion to audiences ranging from external auditors to those with no accounting background
  • Project management skills including planning, task assignment, status tracking and reporting
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, with the ability to interpret, audit, and sign off on complex spreadsheets

Responsibilities

  • Review complex agreements, perform independent accounting research, determine which US GAAP standards apply, accurately diagnose accounting and financial reporting outcomes, and clearly document conclusions in relevant memos and accounting policy updates.
  • Research accounting questions raised by the controllership and the broader business, partnering with subject matter experts and process owners to build workable solutions to emerging issues
  • Review the work of teammates and coach and train junior personnel
  • Engage with external auditors and proactively clear material accounting and financial reporting conclusions in advance
  • Build and maintain documentation that meets the requirements of all relevant SOX controls, including, when necessary, developing SOX controls for new and emerging issues
  • Partner with groups including Controllership, Equity Administration, Treasury, Finance, Tax, Legal, and Corporate Development to assess prospective and executed transactions for accounting and reporting implications.
  • Understand and analyze compensation arrangements, including variable compensation and stock-based compensation, for financial statement and disclosure impacts.
  • Support key financial reporting functions including review of supporting schedules underlying public filings
  • When necessary, coordinate with external accounting and valuation experts to address areas requiring significant technical expertise
