About The Position

This position leads the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team at a large and complex manufacturing site. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the overall EHS program at the site, including creating and implementing strategic safety and EHS initiatives to foster and enhance our EHS culture. This role requires a strong technical EHS skillset to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. It includes participation on the Plant Leadership Team and managing a team of direct reports as well as the ability to lead and influence without direct authority. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering or related field.
• Five years of relevant experience in EHS management in a large manufacturing environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of LOTO, Machine Guarding, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
• Proficient leadership experience with the ability to develop and mentor a team.
• Proficient continuous improvement skills.
• Proficient experience in managing/handling environmental compliance including reporting and record keeping, environmental permitting for all media, manufacturing operations, regulatory reviews.
• Proficient presentation skills.
• Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to administer and interpret OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
• Able to perform compliance assessments and action plans.
• Advanced handling conflict/mediation skills.
• Advanced analytical skills.
• Advanced problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree preferred.
• Functional Safety Certifications, Certified Safety Specialist, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Six Sigma Green, or Black Belt preferred.
• Experience in Medical Device, Chemical, or manufacturing is preferred.
• Experience with OSHA PSM is preferred.
• Experience managing a team in a cross-functional environment is preferred.
• Knowledge and experience in ISO14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 compliance preferred.
• Auditor certifications a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of EHS professionals, providing guidance, support and development opportunities.
• Develop and implement strategic EHS initiatives, policies, programs and metrics to continuously improve the site's EHS culture and performance.
• Coordinate day-to-day implementation of critical safety programs, such as LOTO, Machine Guarding, Powered Industrial Trucks, Electrical Safety and Fall Protection.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant EHS regulations, laws, standards, permits/licenses and company policies.
• Design and deliver training programs to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of the EHS team.
• Facilitate incident investigations with strong root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Drive continuous improvement in EHS processes and practices through data analysis, audits, and feedback.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into operational decisions and projects.
• Other duties as to support the needs of the business.
