About The Position

Invitation Homes is seeking a Sr. Engineering Manager to manage a software development organization comprised of multiple engineering teams. This role is crucial for translating high-level strategies into actionable plans, ensuring team alignment, and driving the effective implementation of the engineering roadmap. The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and project planning capabilities to ensure well-coordinated, successful, and impactful engineering efforts. This position will be instrumental in fostering a culture of collaboration and team performance, with the goal of driving growth and enhancing the resident and associate experience.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional development experience
• 3+ years of recent experience managing or leading an engineering team
• Experience working in an agile development environment
• Deep understanding of software and development engineering principles and concepts
• Deep technical skills in one or more of the following areas: JavaScript development, database technologies (e.g. MSSQL, Postgres, DynamoDB), AWS serverless, CI/CD, Salesforce
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, or equivalent work experience
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to thrive under pressure and function effectively in a fast-paced work environment
• Sound judgment and swift decision-making skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to collaborate and build consensus with others
• Knowledgeable about system design, data structures and algorithms
• Experience working with distributed/scalable systems and high-volume applications
• Love of technology; actively seeks continuing education of current and emerging technologies

Responsibilities

• Understand critical business and organizational strategies to craft a technical roadmap that aligns systems and engineering teams to implement those strategies.
• Work closely with Product, Product Design, and Delivery partners to prepare projects, including identifying opportunities, risks, priorities, scope, and understanding cross-functional concerns.
• Guide and participate in exploration, design, documentation, and communication around system architecture, APIs, messages, and interfaces to third-party systems.
• Foster a healthy, collaborative, and generative culture where individual creativity can thrive.
• Grow and inspire teams through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and career development.
• Measure system and engineering team performance and collaborate on prioritizing and implementing improvements for maximum impact.
• Provide guidance and support to ensure teams successfully deliver technical projects while maintaining accountability for outcomes.
• Stay current with technology trends, encourage innovation, experiment with and learn new technologies, and participate in internal & external technology groups.
