About The Position

Avantor is seeking a Sr. Maintenance Scheduler to assist in the scheduling and coordination of maintenance activities with production and plant staff. This is a full-time position based out of our Bakersfield, CA location. The role involves implementing operational goals by developing and maintaining detailed maintenance schedules that align with production requirements, equipment capacity, material availability, and customer demand. The Sr. Maintenance Scheduler will own and maintain a comprehensive maintenance “master schedule” by analyzing equipment needs, preventative maintenance requirements, and plant capacity to ensure optimal asset reliability and uptime. They will optimize maintenance scheduling processes to maximize equipment utilization while minimizing downtime, production disruption, and reactive maintenance. This role also involves partnering with procurement and inventory teams to ensure the availability of critical spare parts, maintaining accurate tracking of spare parts and equipment data within CMMS and other asset management systems, and supporting asset lifecycle management and reliability strategies through effective planning and scheduling practices. Additionally, the role contributes to the continuous improvement of scheduling processes, maintenance standards, and planning tools within CMMS, and may lead smaller-scale scheduling and reliability projects or coordinate cross-functional initiatives. The position requires managing and adapting to recurring but variable maintenance scheduling challenges, including emergency repairs, shifting production priorities, material delays, and equipment availability constraints, utilizing data-driven decision-making to reprioritize work. The Sr. Maintenance Scheduler will partner closely with Production, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Materials Management to ensure alignment between maintenance activities and operational priorities, acting as the primary point of contact between Maintenance & Reliability and manufacturing teams. They will also collaborate with external vendors and contractors to align repair schedules and manage lead times. The role involves assigning and prioritizing maintenance work orders based on technician skillsets, workload balancing, and business priorities, ensuring timely execution of preventive maintenance and corrective work, and monitoring schedule adherence. Finally, the position requires communicating equipment status, maintenance schedules, and potential risks clearly to production teams and site leadership, supporting the broader manufacturing organization in achieving on-time delivery, reduced downtime, and efficient use of resources, and providing reliability-focused insights in cross-functional meetings.
