Sr. Maintenance & Reliability Engineer

Chobani•Twin Falls, ID
•$105,500 - $166,100

About The Position

The Sr. Maintenance & Reliability Engineer serves as the facility’s subject matter expert for preventive maintenance (PM) program design, optimization, and validation. The role ensures that PM tasks are performed efficiently and effectively and are continually improved based on equipment performance data and root cause analysis (RCA). It requires strong CMMS Plant Maintenance expertise to manage work order quality, scheduling, and reporting, and the ability to lead cross-functional RCA efforts with maintenance and operations teams. The position drives measurable improvements in maintenance schedule adherence, equipment reliability, and overall maintenance effectiveness. The engineer optimizes and validates PM programs, coordinates RCA and corrective actions, monitors reliability performance, supports condition-monitoring and predictive-maintenance initiatives, and mentors Engineer I and II staff. The position collaborates with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to translate data and findings into improved maintenance plans and equipment performance.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree preferred in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • At least 5 years of experience in reliability, maintenance, or manufacturing engineering; food, beverage, or consumer packaged goods experience is preferred.
  • Strong experience building and improving preventive maintenance programs.
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems, preferably SAP, including work orders, maintenance plans, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Experience leading Root Cause Analysis and driving equipment reliability improvements.
  • Working knowledge of reliability tools such as FMEA, PM optimization, MTBF/MTTR, and failure analysis.
  • Experience managing PM compliance, maintenance schedules, and backlog reduction.
  • Familiarity with predictive and condition-based maintenance technologies.
  • Ability to analyze equipment data and turn insights into action.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence maintenance and operations teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in food, beverage, or consumer packaged goods.
  • Professional certifications such as CMRP, CRE, or Lean Six Sigma.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate PM task frequency, scope, and quality against risk, cost, and equipment criticality.
  • Establish and lead a process to validate that scheduled PM tasks are completed correctly and on time and deliver intended reliability outcomes.
  • Conduct field audits of PM execution and provide structured feedback to the maintenance supervisor on compliance, quality, and technique.
  • Use failure data, MTBF trends, and RCA findings to modify, add, or eliminate PM tasks.
  • Develop and implement PM task standards, including labor estimates, required parts, procedures, and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead PM rationalization efforts by identifying redundant, ineffective, or over-specified tasks and replacing them with value-adding work.
  • Support transitions from time-based PMs to condition-based and predictive maintenance tasks where supported by data.
  • Advise on CMMS task lists, maintenance plans, and scheduling parameters to reflect the optimized PM program.
  • Lead and facilitate RCA for significant and recurring equipment failures, coordinating maintenance, operations, and engineering participants.
  • Translate RCA findings into corrective actions such as PM changes, procedural updates, spare-parts additions, or design modifications.
  • Track corrective-action closure and validate the effectiveness of solutions using equipment performance data.
  • Partner with operations and maintenance leadership to integrate RCA insights into the weekly maintenance schedule and prioritize work by criticality and risk.
  • Attend and support cross-functional maintenance planning meetings to review PM compliance, corrective actions, and upcoming work order priorities.
  • Promote reliability-centered practices and build maintenance team capability in failure analysis, PM methodology, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Analyze downtime trends and maintenance cost data to identify systemic PM program gaps and prioritize improvements.
  • Monitor reliability KPIs, including MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance, schedule adherence, and cost of unreliability.
  • Support implementation and expansion of condition-monitoring technologies, including vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis, and connect findings to PM strategy.
  • Assist with equipment criticality assessments to inform PM frequency, spare-parts stocking levels, and maintenance resource allocation.
  • Ensure new equipment is onboarded with appropriate PM plans, CMMS task lists, and BOM structures before startup.
  • Mentor Engineer I and II staff in reliability principles, PM methodology, and PM usage.
