Sr. Maintenance & Reliability Engineer

Chobani•Twin Falls, ID

About The Position

The Sr. Maintenance & Reliability Engineer serves as the facility’s subject matter expert for preventive maintenance (PM) program design, optimization, and validation. The role ensures PM tasks are executed effectively and efficiently, and continuously improved using equipment performance data and root cause analysis (RCA). It requires deep expertise in CMMS Plant Maintenance to manage work-order quality, scheduling, and reporting, along with the ability to lead cross-functional RCA efforts with maintenance and operations teams. The position drives measurable improvements in maintenance schedule adherence, equipment reliability, and overall maintenance effectiveness. The role evaluates PM task frequency, scope, and quality; establishes validation processes; audits PM execution; and uses failure data, MTBF trends, and RCA findings to update the program. It develops PM task standards and leads rationalization efforts, supports the transition to condition-based and predictive maintenance where data supports it, and advises on CMMS task lists, plans, and scheduling parameters. The position leads RCA for significant and recurring equipment failures and ensures findings result in actionable corrective work. It tracks corrective action closure and effectiveness, integrates reliability insights into maintenance planning, monitors reliability KPIs and maintenance cost data, supports condition-monitoring technologies and criticality assessments, and ensures new equipment is onboarded with appropriate PM plans, task lists, and BOM structures. It also mentors Engineer I and II staff in reliability principles and PM methodology.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree preferred in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • At least 5 years of experience in reliability, maintenance, or manufacturing engineering; food, beverage, or consumer packaged goods experience is ideal.
  • Strong experience building and improving preventive maintenance programs.
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems, preferably SAP, including work orders, maintenance plans, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Experience leading Root Cause Analysis and driving equipment reliability improvements.
  • Working knowledge of reliability tools such as FMEA, PM optimization, MTBF/MTTR, and failure analysis.
  • Experience managing PM compliance, maintenance schedules, and backlog reduction.
  • Familiarity with predictive and condition-based maintenance technologies.
  • Ability to analyze equipment data and turn insights into action.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence maintenance and operations teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as CMRP, CRE, or Lean Six Sigma.
  • Experience in food, beverage, or consumer packaged goods.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate preventive maintenance task frequency, scope, and quality to optimize risk, cost, and equipment criticality.
  • Establish and lead a PM validation process to confirm scheduled maintenance is completed correctly and on time and delivers intended reliability outcomes.
  • Conduct field audits of PM execution and provide structured feedback to the maintenance supervisor on compliance, quality, and technique.
  • Use failure data, MTBF trends, and RCA findings to modify, add, or eliminate PM tasks.
  • Develop and implement PM task standards, including labor estimates, required parts, procedures, and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead PM rationalization efforts to identify redundant, ineffective, or over-specified tasks and replace them with value-adding work.
  • Support transition from time-based PMs to condition-based and predictive maintenance tasks where data supports it.
  • Advise on CMMS task lists, maintenance plans, and scheduling parameters.
  • Lead and facilitate RCA for significant and recurring equipment failures, coordinating maintenance, operations, and engineering participation.
  • Translate RCA findings into corrective actions such as PM changes, procedural updates, spare-parts additions, or design modifications.
  • Track corrective action closure and validate the effectiveness of solutions using equipment performance data.
  • Partner with operations and maintenance leadership to integrate RCA insights into the weekly maintenance schedule and prioritize work by criticality and risk.
  • Attend and support cross-functional maintenance planning meetings to review PM compliance, open corrective actions, and work-order priorities.
  • Champion reliability-centered practices and build maintenance-team capability in failure analysis, PM thinking, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Analyze downtime trends and maintenance cost data to identify PM program gaps and prioritize improvements.
  • Monitor reliability KPIs, including MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance, schedule adherence, and cost of unreliability.
  • Support implementation and expansion of condition-monitoring technologies, including vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis, and connect findings to PM strategy.
  • Assist with equipment criticality assessments to inform PM frequency, spare-parts stocking, and maintenance resource allocation.
  • Ensure new equipment is onboarded with appropriate PM plans, CMMS task lists, and BOM structures before startup.
  • Mentor Engineer I and II staff in reliability principles, PM methodology, and PM usage.
