About The Position

Creates a pleasant, comfortable and safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. Maintains and services the hospitals utilities, equipment, buildings and grounds. This includes but is not limited to boilers and their related equipment; air conditioning system and related equipment; medical gas systems; electrical systems which include generators, panels, switches, relays, lighting, outlets, etc.; plumbing systems which includes piping, fixtures, filters, vacuum breakers, faucets, etc. and building repair; painting; wall repair, etc. This position is represented by RCHEA.

Requirements

  • Experience in a variety of trades such as boiler operation, building maintenance, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing and HVAC
  • Five years experience as a maintenance engineer in a hospital setting or related field is recommended
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to use a computer
  • Demonstrate competence by planning and executing disaster drills internally and in conjunction with Adventist Health and the community. And by responding in actual events. Coordinate post drill debrief and document activities. Evaluate disaster drills and write after action plans to address opportunities. Recommend and provide guidance for improvements in department specific disaster plans.
  • Must have certificates as required and must complete Proper Authorities training annually
  • Valid California Drivers License with no moving violations within the last three years and insurable under the hospitals insurance carrier
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, talking, and hearing
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, working from ladders, using hands to handle and feel objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lift boxes and/or supplies weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Must demonstrate a lift of a 50 pound box from the floor.
  • Conform with all HIPAA and other confidentiality regulations as required by the job, department, or hospital

Responsibilities

  • Accomplishes the completion of work orders and projects from inception to completion.
  • Assists with patient watches, all emergency code responses, and general hospital security.
  • Assures fair and consistent application of and adherence to departmental, hospital and related policies.
  • Documents all preventive and corrective maintenance work orders completed noting work performed, date, supplies and equipment used, etc., using all required forms of documentation (i.e., electronic work order system).
  • Ensures that all required paperwork is in before the start of project and processed before close of project.
  • Maintains and meets expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health (AH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Monitors and maintains a routine preventative maintenance program for the physical plan and related equipment.
  • Participates in taking call on a rotating basis for night and weekend coverage.
  • Periodically inspects the facility and equipment.
  • Recommends new and replacement equipment.
  • Requests periodic service on warranted equipment.
  • Researches and makes recommendations on supplies needed to maintain all respective equipment by use of a work order system.
  • Willingly performs other duties and innovations as assigned.
