About The Position

Capital Power is seeking a Senior Lead, Commodity Risk Operations to report to the VP, Chief Risk Officer. This role is responsible for enabling and delivering Commodity Risk services and ensuring their commercial impact within an integrated S&T operation. The position leads a focused team and will utilize a combination of direct and indirect authority to achieve cross-functional orchestration of commodity risk commercial enablement activities. A key focus is on operationalizing new trading initiatives, accelerating the New Initiative Approval Process (NIAP), and reducing time-to-market for new products, markets, and trading strategies. The role owns the end-to-end readiness and throughput required for these operationalizations.

Requirements

Post-secondary degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in trading, risk management, middle office, or related functions within energy, commodities, or financial markets.
Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives in regulated environments.
Proven track record of improving operating models, accelerating execution, and scaling enterprise capabilities.
Deep understanding of trading lifecycles and middle office enablement requirements.
Strong knowledge of ETRM platforms, control frameworks, and operating model design.
Exceptional ability to influence without direct authority.
Strong strategic thinking paired with hands-on execution capability.
Excellent communication, change and thought leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

Establishing strategic direction by translating enterprise direction, S&T commercial ambition, and corporate risk appetite into practical standards, team capabilities, readiness criteria, and clear cross-functional hand-offs.
Commercial enablement by orchestrating priorities and interdependencies across Trading, Market Risk, Product Control, Trade Control, and other supporting/enabling functions.
Driving alignment without direct authority to deliver on key priorities and escalating unresolved trade-offs.
Leading the end-to-end orchestration of the new initiatives process, ensuring delivery of an effective, cross-functional outcomes-focused service to Front Office.
Driving material reductions in support function cycle times by removing structural, process, and capability bottlenecks and shifting enablement from sequential to parallel execution.
Continuous Improvement by strengthening Commodity Risk capability and scalability through simplification, standardization, automation, and enterprise change initiatives.
Team Leadership by designing and sequencing the Commodity Risk Operations organizational structure to ensure capability is built at the right time and scale to support Front Office and wider Middle Office / support function execution, growth, and evolving trading strategies.
