About The Position

Baystate Health, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and safety, and home to Baystate Medical Center (BMC), is looking for a Sr. Inventory Handler to join our team in Springfield, MA. This role serves as the key liaison between Food & Nutrition and Inventory Handlers in supporting daily Commissary operations, including receiving, shipping, stocking, inventory control, and record keeping. The position involves performing all functions of an Inventory Handler to achieve daily departmental objectives, assisting in developing and maintaining delivery schedules, and supporting the commissary quality control program. The Sr. Inventory Handler will notify Purchasing Agents and Inventory Control Coordinators of discrepancies and meet with department managers to adjust par levels. This role also oversees the staging and preparation of completed orders for internal delivery and assists the Manager with hiring, orientation, training, performance objectives, and appraisals. Ensuring the quality of work meets or exceeds expectations and adhering to all health, safety, compliance, and regulatory policies are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or HiSET required.
  • ServSafe Certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the key liaison between Food & Nutrition and Inventory Handlers in supporting daily Commissary operations, including receiving, shipping, stocking, inventory control, and record keeping.
  • Performs all functions and responsibilities of the Inventory Handler as required in order to accomplish daily departmental objectives effectively.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining delivery schedules for supplies, materials, and equipment to all sites within Baystate Health.
  • Supports the commissary quality control program for incoming and outgoing orders, ensuring accuracy, product integrity, and appropriate follow-up with staff and Manager.
  • Notifies Purchasing Agents and Inventory Control Coordinators of all discrepancies, including shortages, over-shipments, or damage to supplies, equipment, and materials, documenting all issues and forwards to the Manager for resolution.
  • Meets routinely with department managers to maintain and/or adjust par levels to provide sufficient supply availability while minimizing inventory investment, ensuring appropriate fiscal responsibility.
  • Ensures that assigned daily/weekly/monthly individual work tasks and responsibilities are completed promptly and accurately.
  • Oversees proper staging of completed orders for internal BH delivery according to prioritization and established delivery schedule.
  • Ensures bulk palletized and flatbed cart orders are appropriately prepared for safe transportation to the appropriate BH facility to ensure product/equipment integrity.
  • Assists the Manager in the activities related to hiring, departmental orientation and training, setting performance objectives, and conducting employee performance appraisals.
  • Ensures that the quality of work produced meets or exceeds all customer and professional expectations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, observes all health and safety requirements, and adheres to Baystate Health and Department compliance policies and all applicable laws and regulations.
