About The Position

The Senior Intern is responsible for actively participating in HCSC’s formal internship program that leverages advanced academic knowledge, analytical capabilities, and professional skills to support strategic business initiatives. Working closely with business leaders and cross-functional teams, the Senior Intern will apply emerging methodologies, technologies, and industry best practices to evaluate challenges, develop recommendations, and contribute to the delivery of innovative solutions. The Senior Intern is responsible for gaining a deeper understanding of organizational processes, programs, and technologies while leading significant project work and delivering meaningful business impact. This ten-week paid internship can be located in Chicago, IL, or Richardson, TX.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree; rising senior with a major in computer science, information technology, or information systems. Other majors may be considered.
  • Graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Available for the full duration of the 10-week program.
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior related technical internship or work experience is a plus.
  • Interest or experience with IT systems, platforms or tools is a strong plus (operating systems, network, IT peripherals, etc.).
  • Involvement in IT related Associations/Organizations or participation in relevant technical competitions is a plus.
  • Interest in the healthcare payer industry or beginning a career in IT.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including clear and concise verbal and written communication.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Results-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset and an ability to grasp new and unfamiliar concepts.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize and support multiple projects.
  • Practical, developed PC skills, especially Office 365 and virtual team collaboration tools (MS Teams, SharePoint, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in HCSC’s formal internship program that leverages your skills, knowledge, and capabilities while providing meaningful experience supporting business objectives and member-focused solutions.
  • Contribute to project work, analyze information, and support the development of solutions that address organizational needs.
  • Learn and apply specific aspects of the organization's processes, programs, and technologies while demonstrating increasing independence and ownership of assigned deliverables.
  • Own components of project work and deliverables with guidance from an assigned mentor and manager.
  • Conduct research, analyze data and information, and develop recommendations that inform real business decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Support departmental initiatives that improve business outcomes and the member and client experience.
  • Develop and deliver a final internship presentation to department leadership covering the project, results, and recommendations.
  • Maintain complete confidentiality of company business and comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, and applicable compliance policies.
