The Senior Industrial Hygiene Specialist provides advanced technical expertise to support the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards within PECNA’s manufacturing operations. This role focuses on executing and sustaining industrial hygiene programs, conducting exposure assessments, and implementing effective hazard controls to protect employee health and ensure regulatory compliance. As a subject-matter expert, the Specialist supports site safety objectives through data-driven analysis, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and continuous improvement initiatives. The position operates without supervisory responsibility and serves as a key technical resource within a high-hazard manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Relevant work experience may be substituted for required education
  • 4+ years of industrial hygiene, occupational health, or related experience in manufacturing, industrial, or high-hazard environments
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, exposure assessment methods, and hazard control strategies
  • Familiarity with OSHA, NIOSH, ACGIH, ANSI, and NFPA standards applicable to occupational health and safety
  • Experience conducting exposure monitoring, interpreting results, and recommending appropriate controls
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex data and technical information
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to respond to site emergencies as needed
  • Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Industrial Hygiene–related professional certifications or active pursuit of certifications (e.g., CIH, CSP)
  • Completion of advanced training in exposure assessment, ventilation, chemical hazard evaluation, or occupational health monitoring
  • 6+ years of industrial hygiene or occupational health experience
  • Experience in high-volume battery manufacturing or related industrial environments such as electronics, automotive, chemical, or energy storage manufacturing
  • Experience supporting ISO 45001-aligned safety or health management systems
  • Proficiency with EHS or IH data management systems (e.g., Cority, Enablon, VelocityEHS)
  • Experience supporting exposure monitoring programs, ventilation assessments, or chemical risk management initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring, sampling, and assessments for chemical, physical, biological, and other occupational health hazards
  • Perform exposure assessments and evaluate results in accordance with OSHA, NIOSH, ACGIH, and applicable regulatory and corporate standards
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of industrial hygiene programs, procedures, and standard work aligned with ISO 45001 requirements
  • Evaluate workplace processes, materials, and equipment to recommend engineering, administrative, or PPE controls
  • Analyze industrial hygiene data to identify trends, emerging risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to exposure reduction, risk mitigation, and operational safety performance
  • Assist with the development, validation, and refinement of exposure monitoring strategies and control measures
  • Apply structured problem-solving techniques to address identified health hazards and drive sustainable corrective actions
  • Provide technical input and support for industrial hygiene and occupational health training initiatives
  • Support site teams by clarifying IH requirements, monitoring results, and control expectations
  • Serve as a technical resource to safety professionals, engineers, and operations personnel on industrial hygiene topics
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Safety, and EHS teams to integrate industrial hygiene principles into daily operations
  • Communicate monitoring results, exposure risks, and recommendations clearly to employees, leadership, and stakeholders
  • Support coordination with consultants, laboratories, and vendors involved in industrial hygiene assessments or controls
  • Support compliance with local, state, and federal occupational health regulations and applicable standards
  • Participate in internal audits, inspections, and assessments related to industrial hygiene and health compliance
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports related to exposure monitoring, assessments, and regulatory requirements
  • Support incident investigations and root cause analyses related to occupational health exposures or IH-related findings
