About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Industrial Hygienist, the Industrial Hygienist, will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of workers in various industrial settings. Your primary responsibility will be to identify and assess workplace hazards, develop control measures, and implement strategies to minimize or eliminate potential risks. You will work closely with management, employees, and other safety professionals to promote a safe and healthy work environment.

Requirements

  • B.Sc., in Occupational Health and Safety, master’s degree in industrial Hygiene, or two-years diploma in Occupational and Environmental Health, Occupational Health and safety is required.
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to track and analyze data as well as manage project timelines. i.e., MS Word, Power Point, Excel is necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Certification or working towards certification as a ROHT (Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist), Canadian Safety Technician (CRST) is an asset.
  • 5 years or experience working in a similar role in heavy industry or mining is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation
  • Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team
  • Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift
  • A sound and practical knowledge of the principles of industrial hygiene and sampling procedures.
  • Motivated self-starters with excellent organizational skills; able to work under minimal supervision and be able to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Gold’s safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
  • Identifying potential hazards in the workplace, such as exposure to toxic chemicals, noise, radiation, biological agents, and physical hazards like high temperatures or machinery.
  • Evaluating the likelihood and severity of potential health risks associated with workplace hazards, considering factors such as exposure levels, duration, and vulnerability of employees.
  • Measuring and analyzing employee exposure to hazardous substances or conditions using various monitoring techniques, such as air sampling, noise measurements, or biological monitoring.
  • Interpreting collected data to assess the levels of exposure and compare them to established occupational exposure limits or regulatory standards.
  • Developing and implementing control strategies to minimize or eliminate workplace hazards, including engineering controls (e.g., ventilation systems), administrative controls (e.g., work practices and policies), and personal protective equipment (PPE) recommendations.
  • Providing training and education to employees regarding potential hazards, proper use of protective equipment, and safe work practices to promote a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Ensuring compliance with local, national, and international occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
  • Participating in investigations of workplace incidents or accidents related to occupational health hazards to identify root causes and prevent future occurrences.
  • Participating in the development and review of the Medical Services Plan, Communicable Disease Plan, and overall, Health Plan for site.
  • Assist with supporting employees within the Employee Development Pathway and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
