About The Position

In this senior-level technical role, you will be responsible for the design, simulation, and characterization of high-performance Indium Phosphide (InP) Mach-Zehnder Modulators (MZM) and advanced active components. You will work within a highly motivated team to integrate these devices into our proprietary Silicon Photonics system-on-chip (SoC). This is an opportunity to take a lead role in moving disruptive technology from initial concept through to high-volume manufacturing.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.
  • Extensive Industrial Experience: Proven track record in high-speed InP MZM design and characterization, moving from concept to manufacturing.
  • Outstanding Ph.D. graduates with significant research in directly related active photonic devices will also be considered.
  • Solid understanding of III-V materials, strained multiple quantum wells (MQW), and high-speed transmission line theory.
  • Expert knowledge in designing traveling-wave InP MZMs optimized for high efficiency, high bandwidth, and low insertion loss.
  • Skilled in industry-standard simulation tools for optical waveguides, RF/high-speed electronics, and semiconductor physics.
  • Familiarity with advanced modulator characterization techniques and complex data analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical data to both technical teams and leadership.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a high-growth, evolving technical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design & Simulation: Develop and optimize high-speed InP MZM and photodiode designs tailored for the Skorpios technology platform.
  • Modeling: Conduct rigorous optical and RF simulations (traveling-wave electrodes, semiconductor diodes, and strained multiple quantum wells) to meet aggressive performance specifications.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with layout engineers to ensure design integrity and work closely with processing engineers to define and refine fabrication methods.
  • Testing & Characterization: Lead the electro-optical characterization of fabricated devices, performing deep data analysis to validate performance against models.
  • Product Development: Drive the design review process and deliver comprehensive performance reports to guide the product roadmap.
  • Execution: Meet aggressive goals and timelines within a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.
