Sr. Hardware Engineer, Networking Swtich

SupermicroSan Jose, CA

About The Position

We are seeking a Sr. Hardware Engineer, Networking Switch to lead the hardware development of next-generation high-speed network switch platforms for AI and data center applications. This role involves driving complex PCB schematic design, layout reviews, hardware bring-up, system integration, and in-depth debugging using advanced lab tools. The ideal candidate will lead the development and validation of cutting-edge Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) and photonics-based networking systems, with strong expertise in signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), thermal co-design, and high-speed optical interfaces. You will collaborate closely with firmware, software, validation, manufacturing, and customer support teams to deliver high-performance solutions from concept through production and customer deployment. This is a hands-on technical leadership position requiring deep experience in Ethernet switch architectures, high-layer count PCB design, large ASIC/FPGA systems, and system-level troubleshooting in fast-paced AI/data center environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline (Master’s degree preferred)
  • 8+ years of experience in hardware design and development for networking, server, or high-performance computing systems
  • Strong understanding of Ethernet protocols, network switch architectures, and AI/data center networking technologies
  • Proven experience with high-speed and high-layer count PCB schematic and layout design
  • Strong knowledge of signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), thermal design, and high-speed transceiver technologies, including optics and CPO concepts
  • Experience with large ASIC, FPGA, and CPLD architecture; familiarity with Verilog-based development and debugging is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, system validation, and lab debugging tools
  • Familiarity with Linux environments, networking diagnostics, and system-level troubleshooting methodologies
  • Strong cross-functional communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Responsibilities

  • Lead hardware development activities for high-speed network switch platforms
  • Drive complex PCB schematic design, layout reviews, and system-level hardware integration.
  • Lead hardware bring-up, debugging, validation, and root-cause analysis using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and related lab tools.
  • Lead/support the development, integration, validation, and customer support of next-generation CPO (Co-Packaged Optics) and photonics-based networking systems, including high-speed SI/PI, thermal co-design, optical diagnostics, and AI fabric optimization.
  • Collaborate with firmware, software, validation, manufacturing, and FAE teams to support new product development and issue resolution
  • Support system integration, interoperability testing, and customer deployment activities for AI and data centers
  • Analyze and resolve hardware-related issues involving signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), thermal performance, optics, and transceiver interfaces
  • Participate in architecture reviews, design verification, engineering change reviews, and production readiness activities
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including design specifications, validation reports, troubleshooting procedures, and change records
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, validation methodologies, and product quality standards
