About The Position

Mercer's Government Human Services Consulting (GHSC) practice has touched more than 60 million lives since our inception in 1985, working with state Medicaid agencies to transform Medicaid programs to better serve our most vulnerable communities. Our nearly 500 specialists provide comprehensive services including actuarial and financial, clinical and behavioral health, pharmacy, policy, and more. This role will participate in routine client engagements, managing overall service delivery and strategy, financial evaluations, and plan design. The individual will draft and review client reports and presentations to summarize findings and implications, and recommend strategies and solutions. They will perform and review complex analyses and cost projects by using or modifying existing tools and pricing models, and review analyses conducted by junior staff to ensure actuarial soundness and correct use of models. The role involves handling day-to-day client contact and management, resolving project-related questions and challenges, and guiding junior staff members in client interactions. Additionally, the Sr. Government Health Actuary will assist senior team members in business development by identifying potential areas of growth in existing projects and providing assistance in responding to requests for information or proposals.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree
  • 5+ years health actuarial experience
  • 3+ years of Medicaid leadership actuarial experience
  • Ability to handle client and project management in a demanding work environment with tight deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Medicaid actuarial experience spanning multiple states, programs, health insurers, or Federal agencies and actuarial consulting experience
  • Actuarial credentials (ASA, FSA, or MAAA)
  • Experience related to health plan analysis or capitated rate development
