About The Position

The Global Engineering Strategy (GES) team is seeking a results-oriented and inventive senior geotechnical engineer to lead front-end geotechnical engineering for new owned and leased site developments. This role will drive geotechnical engineering due diligence and design-ready geotechnical efforts for new and expanding regions, focusing on maintaining high performance standards, innovation, budget reduction, and efficiency increases. The position is within the Design Engineering team of the Data Center Engineering (DCE) organization, collaborating with Real Estate, Risk and Resiliency, Environmental, Pre-Construction, and other partner teams on global design strategy implementation. Responsibilities include assisting in data center site selection, reviewing due diligence reports, leading geotechnical investigations and preliminary engineering, and playing a key role in data center design delivery.

Requirements

• 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
• Professional Engineering or Architectural License
• 10+ years of professional experience in geotechnical site characterization, design and construction, and project management.

• Oversight and management of a variety of subsurface investigation programs
• Planning and execution of geotechnical laboratory testing regimes.
• Performing design calculations for pavements, shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, temporary and permanent support for excavation.
• Performing settlement analysis, ground improvement analyses, slope stability analyses.
• Preparing engineering reports and construction specifications.
• Performing construction oversight.

Responsibilities

• Collaborating with internal stakeholders during the due diligence and pre-design phases to oversee the process and ensure design requirements are considered.
• Collaborating with internal teams to gather data to ensure pre-requisites for start of design stage are met.
• Leading due diligence and pre-design geotechnical investigations, managing internal partners and your external vendor consultants, ensuring design ready geotechnical deliverables are completed and handed over for successful design execution.
• Rollout strategy of new data center design types and intercepts that impact geotechnical investigations and engineering.
• Provide engineering design decisions to the partner teams for strategic planning and region selection.
• Collaborate with other DCE teams developing new data center infrastructure products, and design execution team disciplines such as civil engineering, structural engineering and architects to assess how our various design types, BOD and products can be deployed for a certain site development project.
• Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
• Escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities, backgrounds and levels of leadership.
