About The Position

Innova Solutions is hiring a senior, hands-on individual contributor for a Java full-stack development role. The position is contract to hire, with an initial duration of six or more months, and is based in Columbus, Ohio. The developer will build new APIs and services from scratch, with a focus on Java, Spring Boot, microservices, Kafka, and AWS. Front-end work in React is expected to make up a small portion of the role, approximately 10%. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and bring strong communication skills. The role calls for advanced backend engineering, including Java and Spring expertise, event streaming with Kafka, API design, application security, data persistence, and production troubleshooting. It also involves developing React and TypeScript interfaces, integrating with APIs, and testing front-end functionality. The developer will work with AWS services and containerized workloads, including S3, Lambda, ECS, and EC2, as well as Docker and Kubernetes. Other areas include infrastructure as code, SQL and database tuning, migrations, caching, observability, performance testing, and practical application and cloud security. The team uses Splunk, Dynatrace, and Grafana; experience with these tools is a plus.

Requirements

At least 7 years of hands-on Java full-stack development experience; 8 or more years is preferred.
Strong Java expertise, including object-oriented and functional programming, concurrency, collections, and performance awareness.
Strong Spring Boot, Spring Data/JPA, and Spring Security experience.
Experience designing, building, and operating Kafka event-streaming platforms.
Strong API design and integration skills, including versioning, idempotency, backward compatibility, and resilient client patterns.
React and TypeScript experience, including components, hooks, state management, forms, routing, API integration, and testing.
Production AWS experience, including ECS and EC2, networking, S3, IAM, observability, and secrets management.
Experience with Docker; familiarity with Kubernetes for working within ECS.
Knowledge of infrastructure as code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
Advanced SQL skills and experience with query tuning, transactions, and schema migrations.
Experience with Redis or ElastiCache caching patterns.
Experience with structured logging, metrics, tracing, operational readiness, and production troubleshooting.
Experience with backend testing tools such as JUnit 5, Mockito, Spring test slices, and Testcontainers.
Practical security experience, including authorization, least privilege, and secure secrets handling.
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Splunk, Dynatrace, or Grafana.
Experience with contract testing using Pact.
Experience with Cypress or Playwright for end-to-end testing.

Responsibilities

Build new Java and Spring Boot services and APIs from scratch.
Design, build, and operate Kafka-based event streaming solutions.
Develop and maintain a small React and TypeScript front end and integrate it with APIs.
Deploy and operate production workloads using AWS services, including S3, Lambda, ECS, and EC2.

Model and tune data persistence, SQL queries, and database migrations; use caching where appropriate.
Implement logging, metrics, tracing, alarms, runbooks, and other production-readiness practices.
Write and maintain automated tests, perform basic load testing, and address security vulnerabilities.
Apply secure authorization, IAM, and secrets-management practices.
