Sr Fluids Design Engineer

Blue Origin•Space Coast, WA

About The Position

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Fluids Engineer to support development and operations of New Glenn, a reusable heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle. The role develops, tests, and implements fluid systems for aerospace projects, including pneumatic, cryogenic, thermal, and environmental control systems. The position calls for close attention to safe, repeatable spaceflight and collaboration across disciplines. The engineer will develop and validate fluid-system models, conduct experiments and analyze performance data, integrate systems into aerospace vehicles, and prepare technical documentation and stakeholder presentations. The role also includes participating in design reviews, managing vendors and suppliers, and overseeing component specifications and flight hardware through design, development, qualification, and delivery. Project management duties include scheduling and budget tracking.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with solid modeling, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and configuration control of engineering and documentation.
  • Experience interpreting fabrication and installation drawings.
  • Knowledge of standard piping-system components and their installation and fabrication methods, including pipe stock, fittings, connections, valves, fasteners, structural members, and welding.
  • Knowledge of typical use, constraints, and specifications for fluid components in tubing and piping systems, such as valves, regulators, and pumps.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with teams across multiple roles and disciplines to achieve a common goal.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD programs and finite element analysis (FEA) programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting mechanical and/or piping systems.
  • Experience creating process hazard analyses, job hazard analyses, and formal risk evaluations.
  • Experience designing aerospace fuel, oxidizer, and high-pressure pneumatic systems and supporting their operations.
  • Experience designing, operating, and maintaining cryogenic systems.
  • Knowledge of precision-cleaning processes and levels, and stainless-steel passivation.
  • Knowledge of corrosion mitigation in marine environments, including materials and coatings selection.
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as multimeters, dew point meters, vacuum equipment, and regulator panels.
  • Experience with REFPROP, SINDA/FLUINT, Thermal Desktop, or other fluid-modeling software.
  • Experience troubleshooting fluids hardware.
  • Experience with Creo and ANSYS (preferred tools).

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and test pneumatic, cryogenic, thermal, and environmental control fluid systems.
  • Develop and validate fluid-system models using relevant software tools.
  • Conduct experiments and analyze data to assess system and component performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate fluid systems into aerospace vehicles.
  • Prepare technical documentation and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical input for continuous improvement.
  • Manage project activities, including vendors, schedules, and budgets.
  • Author component specifications and manage suppliers through design, development, qualification, and delivery of flight hardware.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Basic and supplemental life insurance.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match of up to 5%.
  • Education Support Program.
  • Stock options for regular employees working at least 20 hours per week.
  • Paid time off of up to four weeks per year, based on weekly scheduled hours.
  • Up to 14 company-paid holidays.
  • Employees may be eligible for benefits and bonuses based on role type, job level, individual contributions, and other factors; amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed.
