About The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Regulatory Reporting, this Senior Financial Analyst (“SFA”) or Intermediate Financial Analyst (“IFA”) position is a key member of the finance team. This role provides opportunity for cross functional collaboration between accounting, financial planning, tax and actuarial finance teams as well exposure to regulatory bodies including Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), GAA, and Statistics Canada.

Requirements

  • University or college degree in business, finance, or related program
  • A CPA accounting designation (SFA), or working towards a CPA accounting designation (IFA)
  • Strong MS Excel skills are required
  • Prior experience in a financial reporting role or a role auditing financial reporting
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to operational excellence
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Flexibility to deal with time sensitive ad hoc requests as they arise
  • Professional, friendly and courteous in all interactions, whether with customers or co-workers
  • High degree of proficiency with English required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in financial services industries in general, and insurance specifically, would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of regulatory reporting requirements for OSFI, Statistics Canada, and GAA ensuring accuracy and compliance (P&C1s, surveys)
  • Interact with other business units to obtain and/or provide financial information
  • Prepare journal entries, general ledger reconciliations and monthly analyses
  • Implement process efficiencies and controls for month-end and PC1 tasks
  • Self-review and review of junior team member’s work for reasonability, accuracy and completeness
  • Provide leadership to Co-op student and other team members
  • Lead issue resolution by working with stakeholders to gather information and propose solutions
  • Lead ad-hoc projects and process improvement initiatives
