About The Position

The Surgical Operating Unit is a key business within Medtronic's Medical Surgical portfolio, delivering advanced surgical technologies that support physicians and healthcare professionals across minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. This role is part of the Surgical Finance leadership team and serves as a strategic finance partner to senior business leaders. Based onsite at Medtronic's Lafayette, Colorado; North Haven, CT; Boston, MA or Mounds View, MN campus. The Senior Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) provides financial leadership across the Surgical Operating Unit, leading financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and performance management activities. The role partners closely with executive leadership to drive growth, profitability, investment decisions, resource allocation, and strategic initiatives while leading a high-performing team of finance professionals. As a trusted advisor to both business and finance leaders, this individual helps shape strategy through data-driven insights and rigorous financial analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of finance, financial planning and analysis, accounting, or business finance experience with 7+ years of people leadership experience OR Advanced degree and 8+ years of finance, financial planning and analysis, accounting, or business finance experience with 7+ years of people leadership experience.
  • Experience leading financial planning, forecasting, annual operating planning, and business performance management.
  • Experience managing profit and loss statements and supporting executive-level financial decision-making.
  • Experience presenting financial results, analyses, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Experience leading and developing teams within a global organization.
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with executive leadership to develop and execute financial strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead annual operating planning, long-range planning, forecasting, and monthly financial close processes.
  • Provide executive-level insights on revenue, margin, operating expense, capital investments, and strategic growth opportunities.
  • Deliver financial analysis and insights on revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, capital investments, and business performance.
  • Communicate financial results, performance drivers, risks, and business outlook to business and finance stakeholders.
  • Partner with operations, commercial, research and development, portfolio, and corporate teams to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Evaluate strategic initiatives, business development opportunities, and cost optimization efforts through financial analysis.
  • Drive performance management through financial metrics, forecasting accuracy, and actionable business insights.
  • Build and develop a high-performing finance organization through leadership, talent development, succession planning, and coaching.
